Yeung's poppy fields are torched by a law enforcement task force, she retaliates by ordering police officials assassinated. The Angels break into Yeung's corporate offices, eventually tracing her headquarters. After Alex Fong's character is captured and held by Yeung, the Angels mount an assault to rescue him. A complex sub-plot involving an armored car bullion robbery eventually leads the Angels to a final showdown with Yeung and her men.

This film tends to get some respect, and though it has some explosive action, much of the plot is taken up by a lot of buildup, characters appearing, talking and some spying - to be honest, it was just about watchable for the first 45 mins before going up a gear, where some of the finest fights and stunts are performed. This is quite violent film, containing some sadistic scenes of torture, courtesy of Cynthia Luster. She steals every scene she is in. She's so nasty that you just can't wait until Moon Lee and co. Give her a good send-off. Not as good as the sequel, but it's ok with an intense last thirty minutes.

i'd have given this movie a higher rating, but i prefer subtitles to dubbing. that said, the action scenes were aces and the subplots were, as usual for HK flicks, cringe-inducing enough that you were ecstatic when they got back to the martial arts. a neat trick with concrete stands out.

also, i found myself mooning for moon lee - don't want to mess with that angel. the set-up did seem like a take-off on that old fave charlie's angels, but with a co-ed cast. it was nice to see that the women could handle themselves as well or better than the men.

I had heard a lot of good things about "Iron Angels" and how it influenced the Hong Kong film industry so much that for years they were trying to cash in on its success by attaching the world "Angels" to a series of similar films. Having finally seen it, I must say I was a bit underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, the action scenes ARE spectacular and explosive, particularly a massive shootout (we're talking about HUNDREDS of bullets here) that ends with a very high jump from the roof of a house, and the climactic fight between Moon Lee and Yukari Oshima that gets seriously bloody and brutal. It's the film-making itself that leaves something to be desired: there are too many points where the film seems to lack a smooth flow from scene to scene, and becomes hard to follow. Obviously a must-see for Girls-With-Guns fans (Lee, Oshima - who brings a touch of perversity to her villainous role - and Elaine Lui all mean SERIOUS business in action), but not quite a classic of the genre IMO. Try to see it in the "Iron Angels" version, as the one titled simply "Angels" has been trimmed in moments of extreme violence. (**)

This was one of the first movies I ever saw women playing a major role in a modern day action movie! At the time not realizing that this genre was called "Girls with guns" or femme fatale"! Since then I have seen many and just have to say that I love this genre! The women in "Iron Angels" are beautiful but very dangerous! The plot is simple but effective! A special unit ("Angels") is hired to stop a drug syndicate from killing agents who are responsible for destroying opium fields 30 million dollars worth! You get to see the team in action! (For people thinking about Charlie's Angels! It is nothing like that! These men and women are very clever and capable!) The main characters are very likable! Most of them are convincing as martial artists! "Moon Lee" who is not a martial artist shows some moves that let you believe that she is trained! The bad guy in this movie is a very bad woman (Yukari Oshima)! Very attractive,very dangerous and a real martial artist! And it shows! Her kicks are lethal! As with a lot of movies from this genre it is very difficult to get a copy of "Iron Angels" This movie deserves to be seen because it is one of the best in this genre! An overlooked gem!

"Iron Angels 1": After a lot of Thailand's opium production is destroyed, the gangsters want vengeance on the police forces, and Madam Sue (Yukari Oshima) is the most merciless at that. She loves to torture guys in a cellar and kick the s**t out of everybody who doesn't successfully follow her orders. After a lot of agents were killed, members of a special branch called the "Angels" must try and stop Madam Sue's latest plan: a gold robbery.

Highly enjoyable action flick with memorable scenes like the violent fight between Mona (Moon Lee) and Sue at the factory, the trigger-happy Helen (Elaine Lui) wearing two bullet-belts while blasting her way through the enemies' headquarters like there's no tomorrow, their fellow agent Ken trusting his meditation technique to survive being buried alive, and last not least one of the most evil performances of Yukari Oshima ever. Oh, and then it's all for the gold bunnies!

In the mid '80s quality of Hong Kong movies started to skyrocket, and many above B movie were produced such as this one. This movie is bit of a crossover between the old school and the new direction Hong Kong cinema was starting to take.

Hideki Saijo who's a Japanese singer, and Yukari Oshima who's a Japanese karate champion stars with other Hong Kong luminaries.

I like the HK movies from this era, because it has opulence that gets more intense for the next 10 years. Actresses are beautiful, modern looking, and they can move.

I'm not a fan of HK cinema anymore, but I wouldn't mind dating any one of the actresses from this era especially Chow Wai Man.

But anyways, I think you get the drift. HK movies from this era are treat to watch. This one wouldn't disappoint either, it's a great action flick from British ruled Hong Kong.

Very exciting, high octane actioner with a fair dose of blood and guts. But somewhat of a disjointed mess with scenes following each other seemingly at random. For example, the angels sitt at a table in a nightclub, cuts to one of the angles inline for the bathroom as a random guy comes out, cuts to a male angel working out in a gym, cuts to a random police officer walking down a corridor in a police station... as the action intensifies the continuity does improve somewhat and boy does it turn the dial to eleven towards the end. Moon and Yukari shines throughout with the final fight being one of the most epic battles of Hong Kong cinema.

This is a stunning, epic action film with choreography and direction that is as close to perfection as anything I've ever seen.

It is a hard, mean, brutal work that also features some of the best girl-on-girl fighting ever burned to celluloid.

It's hard to know where to start praising it. Everything works. The basic plot line is a little CHARLIE'S ANGELS-like, but don't be fooled into thinking there's anything frivolous within these film cans.

The opening gun battle in Burma's Golden Triangle sets the grim, nihilistic tone. As heroin poppies burn, we are whisked to Hong Kong where our "angels" and the chief villain, Oshima Yukari, are introduced.

Directors Raymond Leung and Teresa Woo captain this project with great assuredness, style and a freshness in the staging that is staggering. The camera moves, cutting and choreography are of the highest order, as is the terrific synth score and the sharp sound design.

Oshima, a sexy, vicious villain, demonstrates a penchant for torture that contrasts with the more girlish, soft personalities of the "angels". One angel, Moon Lee, is absolutely amazing in her demanding role, coming across as both sexy and totally insane.

More noteworthy scenes: an ultra-violent fight between two "friends" in a parking garage; a raid on a country hideout; Oshima's final duel with an able male opponent.

In the Eighties they spent big bucks on material like this. What a golden age it was.

IRON ANGELS is Hong Kong's answer to CHARLIE'S ANGELS, as a pair of fighting women go up against a sinister drug smuggling organisation in a bid to take down the kingpin in charge - who just happens to be a woman. The film is chock full of outstanding action sequences in the form of car chases, shoot-outs and of course martial arts bouts, and it's fair to say that this is top stuff. Certainly there's rarely a dull moment here amid all the death, violence, and suspense.

The delectable Moon Lee wins all of the attention as the lovely-looking crime fighter who turns out to be a deadly combatant in the fight stakes too. She needs to be: the villain of the piece is none other than Yukari Oshima, who invests her role with a real deadliness. Support comes from the welcome likes of David Chiang and in particular Hwang Jang Lee, who gets something more developed than the usual stock bad guy role, which I was very happy with. Inevitably the story is dominated by kick-ass fight choreography and a wowzer powerhouse fight climax that has to be seen to be believed.

Angel is an absolutely superb movie. This is undoubtedly the king of the girls with guns genre. Yukari Oshima plays probably the greatest villain of all time. The scene where she says "I am just a poor defenseless woman", before beating the holy hell out of a man is maybe my favorite scene of all time. If you want great fighting action from gorgeous leading ladies, then this film is for you!

The plot and acting may be campy, but the action is on a higher level just below that of John Woo. The few action scenes really surprised me, and the fight choreography with both martial arts and gun play turned out to be above average. The ending is some of the best when it comes to female martial arts action, it's brutal yet believable, and for its age keeps you on the edge of your seat. For example, most female action heroes don't bleed from the face when kicked or punched, but here they do, and this adds further tension towards the protagonists' plight. To watch I would first be a fan of Asian action movies from this period, as some moments are so cheesy you'll roll your eyes. Comedy, drama, and action don't blend appropriately at times, but once again this is only expected for a Hong Kong feature of the late 80's. With a mild tolerance for cheese and martial arts, you'll no doubt love this one. Moon Lee, Elaine Lui, and Yakuri Oshima perform with deadly swiftness! - 8/10

Teresa Woo's enjoyably frantic, ferociously fight-packed, insanely bullet-shredded 80s HK actioner has a peerless cast of next-level pugilists, Yukari Oshima, Moon Lee, and high-kicking master, Hwang jang-Lee. Even if you simply watched 'Iron Angels' for the propah awesome synth soundtrack, and the dementoid climactic fight between Oshima & Lee it would inevitably be infinities better than anything you were gonna watch today!

Heroically steeped in exhilarating excesses of martial arts mega-bossage, the celebrated end fight caused my plummeting jaw to drop so precipitously my shattered bicuspids are, quite frankly, beyond all hope of dental repair! Iron Angels is an exciting HK fight flick wherein the devastatingly dynamic duo of, Moon Lee & Yukari Oshima demonstratively delivers the brutalist close quarters goods! These sublime sirens of sinew snapping savagery provide unrivalled tibia thrashing thrills, and I humbly worship them with every miserable molecule in my ridiculous B-Movie clotted body!!!

"Angel" practically defines the "Girls with Guns" genre. Yukari Oshima, in the finest role of her great career, plays a hit woman and steals the show. Any fan of action movies must see Angel!!!!!!!!!! One of the greatest femme fatale scenes of all time is in this movie characterized by Yukari's line: "I am just a poor defenseless woman!" Yeah, I'll bet. this film is a winner all the way.

This film is awesome! Pure action, no cut. Shots and the best Kung-fu. And familiar faces from the ol´school; Hwang Jang Lee(Drunken master, Tower of death, etc) Playin a good character with incredible fight scenes, or David Chiang (The legend of the seven golden vampires, Kings of money and fists) as the boss of the Iron angels. The final fight scene is so wild. Two women in a death fight, bloody kung-fu (that´s cool). A non-stop action film from the 80´s. HK films fan? You must see this HIT.

This is a fast-paced and thrilling action flick from Hong Kong, featuring Alex Fong, Moon Lee, and Elaine Lui as the Iron Angels, martial arts-trained agents tasked to take on a drug lord and ruthless femme fatale Madame Yeung (Yukari Ôshima).

Good stuff here with action mixed in with drama and suspense, and a butt-kicking finale with plenty of martial arts and gun-totting action. Likable characters and a simple but effective story line.

Grade A

This is a must watch for anyone who enjoys HK cop films. It is exciting and enjoyable a bit bloody sometimes but not too bad. The characters go well together. The story is easy to follow but a bit fast pace at times. Situations are one after the next. I love it though.
