The magic of cinema. The lights dim, the screen illuminates, and we’re transported to another world. But what happens when that world contains… another world? Horror has long been a genre that loves to play with its audience, and nothing says “I see you” quite like a movie-within-a-movie. It’s like a Russian doll of terror, layers of scares unfolding one after another… and who doesn’t love a good nesting nightmare?
Let’s dive into the meta-madness of horror films that give us a double dose of dread, with the movie-within-a-movie trope!
Universal 10. Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) Movie-Within-a-Movie: Halloween (1978)
Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) stumbles upon a sinister plot by the Silver Shamrock mask company to harness Stonehenge’s mystical powers and harm children on Halloween night. Amidst this chaos, a TV commercial advertises the original Halloween movie, suggesting a universe where Michael Myers’ terror is mere fiction.

The 50th anniversary extended director’s cut of the 1973 tale of teenage possession still shocks
William Friedkin’s deadly serious contemporary horror, adapted for the screen from the bestseller by novelist William Peter Blatty, is back now in cinemas for its 50-year anniversary in the extended director’s cut. This is the film that whispered its evil into the ears of US audiences traumatised by political and generational upheaval. It is also the great ancestor of the entire horror genre: a 132-minute jump scare – with horribly malign slow sections – taking place in upper-middle class America rather than some exotic central European locale.
Ellen Burstyn plays movie actor Chris MacNeil, a single mother ordinarily resident in California but currently renting a handsome townhouse in Washington as she shoots a film called Crash Course; she is playing a liberal academic at odds with the student body who are violently possessed with revolutionary ideas.

Actress Anushka Kaushik, who is currently seen in the political thriller ‘Garmi’, emphasised on giving self-defence training to children during primary classes and she also revealed how she bagged the role in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s web series.
She trained herself in martial art styles like Wing Chun and also learned to handle a rifle. Anushka said that she learned all these fighting skills for self defence and not for getting any roles.
Anushka shared: “Martial art is used for self-defence and Wing Chun is a form specifically designed for women to defend themselves. New Delhi, April 25 (Ians) Actress Anushka Kaushik, who is known for her performance in projects like ‘Ghar Waapsi’, ‘Thar’, and ‘Crash Course’, shared her experience of working with director Tigmanshu Dhulia, how different are her roles in ‘Garmi’ and ‘Patna Shukla’ and her struggles in the entertainment industry.
She said: “The special part about ‘Garmi’ is that this show not only talks about the fun and frolic side of hostel life, but also darker side of politics and how innocent lives get entangled in it, knowingly or unknowingly. Tigmanshu Dhulia sir is an institution and I feel, for every actor, it’s important to go through an experience of working with him. What I love about him is that even though each actor brings their own interpretations of a scene, the way he binds it all together is just amazing. Even when I didn’t have my scenes, I would...

Last night, noted YouTube creator and industry thought leader Hank Green put out the call for fellow creators to publicly share their CPMs -- a typically-closely-held figure that refers to the dollar amount marketers pay per 1,000 clicks of an ad. The key dollar figure varies from creator to creator, but provides a key window into their YouTube monetization prospects.
Given his longstanding call for greater transparency around the influencer economy in the past -- in a bid to help creators advocate for their fair share amid unfair treatment by advertisers and platforms -- Green presumably made the ask on Twitter in a bid to help creators paint a better picture for one another about how they are faring through the coronavirus pandemic. And indeed, creators responded to his call in droves, with top stars like beauty guru James Charles (18 million subscribers) and Minecraft creator Jordan ‘Captain Sparklez’ Maron (10.7 million subscribers...

’90s nostalgia is in full swing, and horror fans are loving it. Many people are revisiting movies they grew up with, while others are discovering those same titles for the first time. And it’s not only cinematic terror that has everyone talking.
Over the past couple of years, the interest in retro books has been on the rise. Combined with ’90s sentimentality, teen horror fiction from the decade has become a special niche for collectors, many of whom are part of Instagram’s enthusiastic community of “bookstagrammers.”
A large portion of the teen horror titles released during the ’90s are now available in e-book format, but the original editions with their colorful covers and witty taglines are the ones we look for while perusing the shelves of used bookstores.
Here at Daily Dead, during a series of seasonal posts, I’m going to be sharing books from my own collection.

He did plenty of swashbuckling as Robb Stark in HBO's Game of Thrones, but Richard Madden is playing an even more iconic character in the new live-action Cinderella, wooing Lily James as Prince Charming. "I read it and loved what they were doing with it. Although I loved the old animation, it has a slightly outdated message that there's a woman with a s--- life that needs a guy to rescue her," says Madden, 28. "It's not something we should be teaching our kids." He's happy to be a part of a more modern, female-empowering retelling. "This is why I was into playing the part.
