A sequel, Moontrap II: The Pyramids of Mars, was planned but remained unmade until 2014 when it was announced that a sequel would, in fact, get made, under the name "Moontrap: Target Earth."
The NASA control room was actually filmed at Enrico Fermi nuclear reactor #2, located south of Troy, MI in Frenchtown Charter Twp., MI. The lighted circular display in the center of the panels shows the control rod positions in the reactor.
Many sets for this movie were built the day before they were used.
