- 14-year-old Ralph and his All-American family head off on their annual trek to summer resort Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss.
- During a hot summer in 1950s Indiana, 14-year-old Ralph and his best friends Flick and Schwartz decide to get their working papers, land their first job, and take the first step into adulthood. Although this means that Ralphie will probably miss the family's annual fishing trip to Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss resort in Lake Michigan, the boys work their fingers to the bone, daydreaming about all the things they'll buy with their money. However, the dream soon turns into a nightmare, and as if that weren't enough, Fuzz-head, the family mascot, runs away, and their rackety jalopy is utterly untrustworthy. Will things work out as planned?—Nick Riganas
- It's summertime in Hohman, Indiana, and 14-year-old Ralph Parker can't wait to get his first job. His friends Schwartz and Flick are less enthusiastic, and the job turns into a nightmare presided over by the story's author, Jean Shepherd, in hilariously unconvincing movie makeup. Ralph's dad hardly can wait for the family's upcoming fishing vacation in Michigan at the movie title's resort but must steer their old car though a sea of tribulations to get there. Fuzzhead the dog runs away and joins a wealthy family, to the consternation of Mom, who patiently handles über-whiner little brother Randy and buys a whirligig as consolation.—John Chapot
