To understand this comedy it is the key to reflect the time it appeared in the movie theaters: early September 1989. East German government is still in it's full power. Peacefull demonstrations in Leipzig were still against the law and east Germans secret police were throwing people into jail for standing up against the authorities.
So someone must have seriously pushed this comedy to the movie theater without authority approval. Which makes this screen gem such a rare thing.
The jokes in this movie are extremely witty. Some need to be thought over more than once or someone with east German decent need to explained. However I'm still surprised how many of the jokes still hit their mark today (e.g. about university administrations).
