Production begins this month on “Surviving Summer,” a teen-surfing drama series for Netflix and Zdf Enterprises. The show is produced by Werner Film Production, a three-time Emmy-nominated Australian firm headed by Joanna Werner.
Sky Katz (previously known as Skylar Katz) (Disney Channel’s “Raven’s Home”) stars as the titular character Summer, a fierce Brooklyn teen who is sent ‘Down Under’ to live with family friends in a coastal town on the Great Ocean Road. She stars alongside Brazilian rising star Joao Gabriel Marinho (“Malhacao”), Australia’s Kai Lewins (“Wild Boys”) and Savannah La Rain (“Content”). It also stars Lilliana Bowrey, a five-time Queensland junior state surf champion, making her first foray into acting.
The ten-part show will be shot at some of Australia’s most iconic surf beaches in Victoria.

While John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China is infinitely quotable thanks to Kurt Russell's performance as the imperfect protagonist Jack Burton, every great reluctant hero needs a great villain, and James Hong's portrayal of the evil Lo Pan gave us a character who is just as memorable as his truck-driving counterpart. With Big Trouble in Little China coming to Blu-ray like never before in a new Collector's Edition on December 3rd from Scream Factory, we've been provided with an exclusive bonus feature clip featuring Hong to share with Daily Dead readers!
Taken from "The Soul of Lo Pan" bonus feature on the Big Trouble in Little China Collector's Edition Blu-ray, our exclusive clip below features Hong reflecting on some of his most memorable moments playing Lo Pan, including how Carpenter and his crew used practical effects and ingenuity to pull off Lo Pan's glowing transformation and floating ability.

It takes approximately two minutes of speaking to Andrew Dice Clay before he starts a routine. "I was just in New York," he says in the same stentorian, street-tough voice that narrated his filthiest nursery rhymes at a sold-out Madison Square Garden in 1990. "It was so cold. I hate fuckin' bundling up, like. You know how you got to do it – the fuckin' scarf with the hat and the bullshit. But, you know, I love New York. I'm a Brooklyn boy."

Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicolas Hoult may have their names on the posters, but we all know the real stars of George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road are the insane vehicles, from Max Rockatansky's trusty Interceptor to the wonderfully named Gigahorse, which is two Cadillac Coupe De Ville's mashed together and put onto a truck chassis. We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Bones, New Girl, Nashville, Arrow and Grey’s Anatomy!
1 | Smash is obviously on the path toward “redeeming” self-absorbed, drug-addicted, obnoxious Jimmy, but after he took the stage high as a kite (leading to a mid-performance injury to Karen) and later chewed out the entire cast and crew (screaming “I’m the only one that did anything anyway!”), won’t the writers’ efforts inevitably be a case of too little too late?

Literature likes to see sons as murderous rivals, but those who rediscover love for each other find it the most fulfilling of bonds
The notion of brotherly love has offered us mixed messages in the past few days. There were two heartwarming stories of reunions – one of the gorillas Kesho and Alf being reunited at Longleat after three years apart, and the other of two American brothers, Ed Muir and Kenneth Corcoran, brought together after being separated for 80 years.
Both the gorillas and the octogenarians were overjoyed to see one another again. On the other hand, the Gallagher brothers have been at each other's throats once more, with Noel mocking Liam's band Beady Eye as an "Oasis tribute band" after they covered Wonderwall at the Olympic closing ceremony. The two are in litigation and have barely spoken since Oasis broke up in 2009.

The adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's 9/11 novel begins promisingly, but soon drowns in treacly sentimentality
In 2001, the twin towers of the World Trade Centre were an unloved New York landmark that became overnight a palpable absence on the skyline and a complex emblem for our tormented times. In his distinguished book Celluloid Skyline: New York and the Movies, published in December of that year, architect and film-maker James Sanders called them "that most overbearing symbol of the new city": he was discussing their unlovely role in Three Days of the Condor (the film's villain, the CIA, had its headquarters there), and in the 1976 version of King Kong.
The book was in proof the week of 9/11 and Sanders considered removing these opprobrious references, but wisely decided this would distort the way Manhattan was perceived by both himself and his readers. Others reacted more precipitately, and film-makers cut shots of...

Disney Animation Studios and Pixar chief creative officer, John Lasseter, chats to us about animation, making Cars 2, and the British rain…
John Lasseter is tired. He's been doing interviews all day for Cars 2 by the time we turn up in the graveyard slot. A spent cup of coffee by his side, at one point he looks like he might nod off on us. He wouldn't be the first.
But then we start talking animation and it's as if fresh jolts of energy are rippling through his body. His infectious enthusiasm for the art comes forth, and we settle down for a chat about it, and his new film, Cars 2...
The last film director that I can remember was so senior in a movie studio was Joe Roth, who was heading up Disney in the 1990s.
That's interesting, yeah.
And Joe Roth couldn't make films himself while he was heading up Fox,...

If you can't stomach Michael Winterbottom's bloody tale of a murderous deputy sheriff – aka Casey Affleck – try digesting Paul MacInnes's condensed script instead
The Killer Inside MEBy Paul MacInnes, with apologies to John Curran and Jim Thompson
Scene 1
Int. Night - Central City, Texas. The 1950s. The kitchenette of Deputy Sheriff Casey Affleck. A winsome country Ballad is playing on the Radio. We see Casey Affleck's smiling Face. It is spattered with Blood as, out of shot, his Fists pummel beneath him.
Kate Hudson [out of shot, screaming]: No! No! Oh my god! No!
Affleck continues to pummel and the camera pulls tighter into his narrow, drawn face. His smile grows broader.
Hudson: Oh god … oh god … Please dear Lord, stop!
Affleck stops pummelling. The smile drains away.
Affleck: Hey, can't you see I'm tenderising some beef here? Do you want your dinner or not?
Cut to Hudson, curled up in a corner of the Kitchenette.

Aaron Ryder and Norton Herrick produce. The romantic comedy sees limited areas on September 4th. Plot: The tires of a baby-blue ’53 Cadillac Coupe de Ville convertible squeal down the New York street, and none of its occupants looks back. The beautiful but mercurial Ann Devereaux (Renée Zellweger) has just left her philandering husband Dan Devereaux (Kevin Bacon), a society bandleader, and taken to the road with her teenage sons, George (Logan Lerman) and Robbie (Mark Rendall), in search of a wealthy replacement mate. It is the day of the New York premiere of My One and Only and Logan Lerman has still not seen a final cut of the film in which he co-stars opposite Renèe Zellweger. "I saw a version that was cut together but it wasn’t the final product and it was great. So I am excited to see it tonight."
Lerman plays veteran actor George Hamilton — yes, the George Hamilton famed for movies like Love at First Bite and Zorro: the Gay Blade, for his irrepressible turn on Dancing with The Stars, for his tan — as a young man. Zellweger plays his mother Ann, who together with his half brother Robbie (Mark Rendall), leave New York when Ann discovers her husband (Kevin Bacon) has a philandering eye.

Herrick Entertainment presents a Raygun Production, in association with Merv Griffin Entertainment and George Hamilton Productions "My One and Only." The film stars Renee Zellweger, Kevin Bacon, Logan Lerman and Chris Noth and opens on August 21st. Zellweger's career's been simmering lately since her role in the less-than-flattering "Leatherheads" which was followed by the bland "New in Town" romance.
