Worth Watching

So, the story is actually pretty good, and it keeps you interested. I love Judith Light in anything, and this is no different. Her character is nearly identical to that of Angela Bower. She's a high powered attorney instead of an ad executive, but you get the idea. It even looks like she borrowed clothes from Angela's closet for this movie. My big complaint about this movie is that she and her on screen husband have NO chemistry. He's wearing sweats and exercising for much of the time and ends up looking less like her husband and more like her son who's been scolded for being a naughty. Speaking of her son, he's played by a pre-Roseanne Johnny Galecki, who does a pretty good job too.

Anyway, I saw the movie on Netflix, so if you have that, I do recommend giving it a look!

This movie was good beyond my expectation. I loved the plot, the characters. Judith Light was great. I Enjoyed it. Except for the saxophone which I thought didn't fit in right into the movie.

They Don't Make Films Like This Anymore!

Warning: Spoilers
From 1990, this was a well-crafted and suspenseful made-for-television film.

There was a clever conceit of the film to have the hotshot attorney Linda Simmons defend her adulterous husband Robert in a high-profile murder case.

Miss Light was in top form in the role of the attorney Laura Simmons, and Mr. Ontkean (of "Making Love" fame) was good as the philandering husband Robert. It is always a treat to see Jerry Orbach, who had a terrific singing voice as well as a smooth acting technique.

While the courtroom scenes were dynamic, it stretched credibility when Laura stopped in the middle of her summation speech and raced out of the courtroom to pursue a lead. It was even more preposterous to believe that Alan would commit murder because he had a crush on Linda and wanted to frame her husband.

Unlike other reviewers on this site, I loved the score of the jazz saxophonist Stan Getz. The costumes were also a treat, as it appeared that Miss Light had a new outfit for nearly every scene. Although the family home looked sterile and "un-lived-in", the direction was crisp and the film moved along at a good clip.

The film is worth viewing for the collective effort of talented people working in the medium of television in the late-twentieth century. They don't make films like this anymore!

Cheesefest
moviemom2320 August 2020
I was reading one of the other reviews and nearly peed my pants I laughed so hard about the husband in sweats and exercising all the time, was more like her son- LOL! It's true.

I normally love Judith Light in anything- especially a good Early 90s period drama. This one was just off. The acting, mainly him, the chemistry was just not there.

The sets decor clothing hair OMG if you're into 80s 90s this is unbeatable for that.

Honestly I did not finish it because it just got too cheesy for me which is beyond comprehension typically I adore the Lifetime type of murder movie- but yukky love scenes, distracting makeup/hair, overly dramatic acting and bad music was just too much this time. I just couldn't concentrate on the story and kept losing track on what was happening. ( holy crap I can't believe how tacky his shirt is... oh wait a minute did he just say he loves her? ) Maybe I just wasn't in the mood? I may try to finish it when I'm feeling stronger.

Bad acting Inc

Judith Light sucked in this movie, totally overacted. I did like her in Who's the Boss.

The lover of the two ladies could be their son.

That's said, the story could be fun, but with both lovers, the wife and the girlfriend being significantly older than the male defendant, the whole movie becomes increasingly incomprehensible.
