Being cast as Spider-Man is a once in a lifetime opportunity. But if you want to crunch some numbers on exactly how difficult it was for Tom Holland to land the part of Peter Parker, this exclusive featurette on the Spider-Man: Homecoming Blu-ray reveals 7,500 actors submitted audition tapes for the latest reboot of the character before the studios met with 200 of them.
"It was a pretty daunting process. I went through a phase of just doing self tapes after self tapes after self tapes," Holland recalls. Watch his own audition tape above, which even includes some early webslinging moves.

The clip also explains why Holland was ultimately "different than everyone else" and includes his first screen tests alongside Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., who remembers, "I got to meet Tom while he was in the final running there."

On the eve of Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Blu-ray release, Collider has conjured up an exclusive featurette designed to take us closer to Peter Parker’s bleeding-edge suit.
Initially conceived by Tony Stark, Parker’s prized asset is almost outdated by the time Homecoming finishes, as Stark went ahead and built a new iteration for the young Web-Head. Peter Parker refused, of course, but we can still look forward to seeing that suit on the big screen in next year’s Avengers: Infinity War.
Closer to home, this insightful featurette recounts the overall design, and brings us interviews with Tom Holland and Jon Watts, both of whom are set to return for the film’s untitled sequel in two years’ time. Indeed, Spider-Man: Homecoming is already available on Digital HD, but tomorrow will see Marvel’s standalone pic scurry onto Blu-ray and DVD. And just like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 before it,...

No matter if you prefer Marvel or DC, I think we can all agree that 2017 has thus far been an exceptionally great year for comic book movies. Having said that, many of you out there probably can’t wait to add each of them to your respective home video collections. In fact, one in particular that we’re especially looking forward to purchasing is that of Peter Parker’s first solo outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Released back in July and currently sitting at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s fair to say the film has solidified its status as a massive hit and a welcome return to Marvel for the character. While it may not be the best comic book movie of 2017, it’s certainly the best film adaptation of the Web-Head to date and as such, there’s much excitement surrounding its upcoming Blu-ray release. The Duggars have seen their fair share over the years from their TLC show, 19 Kids and Counting. We’ve seen quite a number of marriages and births throughout the show’s 9 seasons, but something about Joy-Anna Duggar’s pregnancy just isn’t sitting right with viewers. No one said much when Joy-Anna and her now husband Austin moved up their wedding ceremony to get married right away. However, as soon as Joy-Anna confirmed on social media not too long after the wedding that she was pregnant, speculations started spouting. Could Joy-Anna have gotten pregnant before wedlock? As controversial as that is if

It seems that we will not be getting any DC films without a ton of negative speculation ahead of them. Recently, we had heard that Ben Affleck was no longer going to play Batman and that his film was not going to be part of the Dceu (though at least one of those was since reported to be untrue). Justice League has had it's own set of rumors as well, from changing the tone of certain characters to changing the ending completely. But thanks to Mark Hughes on Superhero News (via ScreenRant) we have some clarification on the the rumors of the "re-shoots" and the most important thing to note is that Justice League is still following the plans of Zack Snyder, and not being overhauled by Joss Whedon.

This week, DC and Warner Bros. made a startling announcement: they are going to begin making films that are not set within the larger DC Extended Universe, instead launching a second, new banner for “elseworld” stories such as the already announced Joker origin film set in the ‘80s. Before this announcement, DC was full steam ahead with a cohesive movie universe not unlike Marvel Studios’ own Marvel Cinematic Universe, meaning every movie from Batman V Superman to Justice League to The Batman would all be part of one larger narrative, the same way the Captain America trilogy, The Avengers, and even Doctor Strange are all connected. It is the age of the movie universe, and DC is second only to Marvel in developing their own, with four movies already released, starting with 2013’s Man of Steel, and two more officially in production, this November’s Justice League and next year’s Aquaman.

We're back with our Episode 2 review of The Defenders Season 1. At the time of this writing I'm only two episodes ahead, so I don't know too much about what happens next, but I can say that each episode builds and improves over the previous episode. So, even though I'm being a bit harsh at times, I'm really enjoying the mini-series, and I'm excited about the direction it's heading.
Unspooling The Mystery
"I heard about her, thought she'd be bigger." -- Misty Knight.
New York is pretty shook-up over the earthquake from Episode 1. Locals are calling into "Trish Talk" radio, citing fears of another Avenger-esque "incident" or a new form of terrorism -- it's a nice bit of exposition that re-establishes the stakes for Hell's Kitchen's residents, while also reinforcing that the world beyond these borders is no less perilous.

Jared Leto has always felt like something of a wild card for the DC Extended Universe. Prior to the release of Suicide Squad, there were rumors about his weird method acting style — him sending weird “gifts” to fellow actors in the character of the Joker, among many other things.
Things didn’t get better when the film came out. He was vocal about the number of Joker scenes that were left on the cutting room floor, and from the way it sounded, he seemed to have felt misled about the movie he signed on to act in. Coupling those feelings with audiences being split on his actual performance, we were left wondering whether or not he’d actually come back for another film, or if Warner Bros. would replace him altogether for his failure to be more of a team player.

When a sitting President of the United States sides with Nazis, jokes just don’t cut it anymore.
After the pro-Nazi rallies in Charlottesville – which led to three deaths last weekend – and President Donald Trump’s horrifying statements in response to the rise of white nationalist groups in America, late night talk shows are trying out a new tone.
Hosts are jumping in and taking on a sitting U.S. president like they’ve never done before. There’s still room for jokes as the hosts convey their views – but as things turn serious, they’re taking a stand and using their voice to the fight against tyranny.

[Editor’s Note: Producer Susan MacLaury and her non-profit production organization, Shine Global, believed they found a unique story about the sex trafficking of young girls by desperate parents and the activist rescuing them. Deep into the production, however, alarm bells started going off about the veracity of their story. The resulting documentary, “The Wrong Light,” captures the story of the filmmakers questioning the girls and the shelter’s founder as they search for the truth. IndieWire invited MacLaury, a former educator and social worker, to discuss the lessons she learned and what all documentary filmmakers need to consider before they start a film.]

The inspiration for “The Wrong Light” came from Natalie Jesionka, then an adjunct professor at Rutgers University. She had just completed a Fulbright Scholarship in Thailand, in which she studied different approaches to counter the trafficking of young Thai girls. Natalie had been impressed in particular by Mickey Choothesa’s “upstream” approach that attempted to prevent parents from selling their daughters, then housed and educated those willing to surrender their custody to him.
We were excited to do this film because sex trafficking globally is a problem that annually affects millions of people, half of whom are children. From a documentary perspective, this was already an old story in late 2011, but telling it from the perspective of impoverished parents who felt they had no choice hadn’t ever been documented.

Matthew Heineman’s new documentary, “City of Ghosts,” is about the citizen journalists behind ”Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently,” whose social media dispatches have been one of the only ways the outside world has been able to track the atrocities happening inside Syria. Heineman embedded himself with these men, who risked everything, as they go through the gut-wrenching job of reporting what is happening in their hometown.
For Heineman, who films by himself without any crew, shooting “City of Ghosts” in many ways was a different filmmaking experience than his Oscar nominated “Cartel Land” where he was embedded in the citizen uprising against Mexican drug cartels. We recently check in with Heineman to find how he approached this particular filmmaking challenge.

The release of “Let It Fall” coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots, which began in April 29, 1992 following the announcement of the “not guilty” verdict in the Rodney King case. The film takes viewers back 10 years before the riots to explore the events that led to the uprising, which left more than 60 people dead and over 2,000 injured.
The documentary features archival footage as well as exclusive interviews with eyewitnesses and people from different neighborhoods across Los Angeles who were directly involved in the events.

The German Democratic Republic was the most intensely surveilled society in human history, and yet — as time marches on and the Cold War becomes nothing more than a memory, gray and alien — the fundamental irony of such a perfect spy state grows more striking by the day: By obsessively monitoring their friends and neighbors, the Gdr’s secret police were creating a perfect documentary of themselves.
