This was a fine little film. Pretty straightforward story of a young girl in turn of the century France whose family marries her off to an older man, a philandering publisher. he introduces her to the wicked ways of swinging Paris, and she takes to the life.

Her writer father has taught her from an early age to keep a journal, and when her husband stumbles upon it he publishes it, giving the writing credit to himself.

Through her acquaintance with writers, actors, singers and dancers, the bohemian intelligentsia, she reclaims her writing as her own, becomes Colette.

great cast. The lovely Mathilda May, Virginia Madsen and Klaus Maria Brandauer. Directed by Danny Huston. A treat. Reminded me a little of Henry and June, which I notice came out the year before. Maybe that is why no one has heard of this one.

I remember clearly to be at University when this movie was aired on TV. So as a student, i got a lot of time at home to do research and learn lessons so i gave me breaks by watching bits of movies. Thus it was pure luck that I caught the lesbian scene and it's good thing because it's one of the finest I have ever watched in a mainstream movie ! May was really sexy being shy and candid whereas Virginia Madsen is hot as the leading partner: the soft almost playful way she pushes May into her arms is really sensual, erotic ! As a result, i wanted to tape the movie and as the channel Canal + offered each movie 6 times on the grid, it was funny to find the right one, IE the one that won't be asked by my family !!
