It's been a few months since we've gotten an update on Jose Pendres' The Divine Tragedies, but our patience has paid off because today we have some new artwork and a few stills to share!
From the Press Release:
Film production company Dual Visions has completed the official artwork for the serial killer fever dream The Divine Tragedies, which shows a partially disguised character from the film.
This horrifying crime thriller is loosely based on the Leopold and Loeb murder case, in which two brothers murdered a young 14-year-old boy. This case shocked citizens of Chicago in 1924. Now, writer/director Jose Prendes (The Haunting of Whaley House) is re-envisioning the case for a new audience.
The official artwork shows a wounded young woman and rose petals. The blood reds highlight the darker elements of the film, and the tagline promises murder: “Your death will be... beautiful.” But who will be the first victim?...

Katie may be daytime’s most colorful show. The greenroom is literally painted a soft mint green. Deep blues adorn the high-tech, mechanized set. Audience members are decked out in numerous brightly hued cardigans. And today, the show’s stage was bathed by sultry red lights in honor of Couric’s guest — Erika Leonard, a.k.a. Fifty Shades of Grey author E L James. (Fifty Shades hero Christian Grey does his dirtiest deeds in a chamber known as the Red Room of Pain.)

R.L. Burnside first recorded at age 40, remained obscure until 65, and was a legend at 75. Born on November 23, 1926 in Oxford, Mississippi, he spent most of his life in his rural native area, where he worked as a sharecropper as late as 1979, though he lived in Chicago and Memphis for short periods. His appearance in the Robert Mugge/Robert Palmer 1992 documentary movie and soundtrack album Deep Blues and his acclaimed 1994 Fat Possum album Too Bad Jim seemed to come out of nowhere to catch the attention of not only blues fans but also the underground rock crowd. But R.L. (pronounced "Rule" by his friends) had been on an Arhoolie compilation LP in 1967, and as his fame rose, several pre-Deep Blues albums reappeared with wider distribution.
Where did Burnside's striking style come from? The decline of the Mississippi sharecropping system and the region's subsequent economic slump led to many railroad lines being discontinued.

German director M.A. Littler got noticed last year in the festival circuit with The Road to Nod, a slow-moving existential film noir with religious references and a moody blues soundtrack. The film travelled all over the world and even won a well-deserved Jury Prize at the Boston Underground Film Festival. Being a very productive filmmaker, it took Littler just a few months to produce and direct another feature. The Folksinger just had its world premiere at the Deep Blues Music & Film Festival where it grabbed the best documentary award. Such recognition might raise a few eyebrows because this movie isn’t a straightforward doc, but a strange object sitting on the thin line between reality and fiction.

In his book Deep Blues, Robert Palmer describes Eddie “Son” House as “a failed preacher, convicted murderer, solid if rudimentary guitarist, and extraordinary blues singer,” and I think that probably covers all the bases except “chronic alcoholic.” House is definitely not someone who’ll dazzle you with his guitarwork. Most of the time, the best that can really be said about his strumming is that it gets the job done, moving the song along serviceably. Where Son House is magical is in his voice—a primal cry of anguish that doesn’t sound like it could ever be satisfied. House was born in Mississippi in 1902.maybe, anyway; he claimed it was the mid-1880s, but legal records say otherwise, and it doesn’t really jibe with the rest of his biography. He tried preaching when he was a teenager, but the lures of drinking, music and associated pleasures (in this case,...
