Sex & Nudity

  • Some sexual references and wisecracks.
  • The Jimmy Buffet song "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw" is heard briefly on the soundtrack and some of the characters sing it briefly twice.
  • A woman disrobes for a doctor's examination. We only see her from the shoulders up. The doctor tells her she looks like a Playboy centerfold in a misguided way to reassure her insecurities about her body.

Violence & Gore

  • Two scenes of surgery. One at the very beginning and once near the end of the film. Scenes contain significant blood, one shot of actual cutting(seen in a reflection) and brief views of bodily organs.
  • A man coughs up blood in one scene. The scene is dark so we only get a brief glimpse of the actual blood.
  • A man pushes another man briefly by the face.

Profanity

  • 2 uses of f**k, 5 uses of s**t, 1 use each of bastard, son of a bitch, damn, and goddamn, a few uses of hell and a few religious exclamations.
  • Several sexual uses of "screw" during the song "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw" which is heard on the soundtrack and to which the characters sing along to a couple of times.
  • A man says to William Hurt before giving him an injection "you are going to feel a little prick" to which Hurt replies "we just met" implying a raunchy double meaning.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • 1 scene of social drinking.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Themes involving cancer, cancer treatment, scenes of surgery, and the death of some characters could be emotionally unsettling for younger viewers.
