Joan Collins has stated that the cast agreed to a reduced salary simply because they felt they owed the fans the chance to say a proper goodbye to Dynasty. The cast were also angry that the show had ended with a lot of unresolved cliffhangers even though they were either brushed over or ignored in The Reunion.
Long-running Dynasty star Gordon Thomson was replaced by actor Robin Sachs in the role of Adam Carrington for the miniseries because of scheduling issues. As a result, Thomson sued Aaron Spelling Productions for breach of contract; Thomson also accused the production company of "mismanaging" the communications with producers on Santa Barbara, where he was then-appearing in the role of Mason Capwell.
The Reunion sees the return of Kirby Anders (Kathleen Beller), a character who had been written out in 1984, but Alexis' ex-husband Dex Dexter (Michael Nader), Blake's half-sister Dominique Deveraux (Diahann Carroll), and Alexis's cousin Sable Colby (Stephanie Beacham) were not included in the miniseries.
Finally available on DVD (Regions 2 + 4), 2019 via Viavision/CBS DVD.
The internal staircase in the Carrington Mansion looks very different to the original series because filming for The Reunion was actually done inside a real house. This was due to the fact that the sets were dismantled after the end of Season 9 when the network unexpectedly axed the show. The reduced budget for The Reunion did not allow for the reconstruction of the old sets.
