A SATIRE ON WHAT?
J. Steed6 September 1999
Hans Joachim Grubel is fine as Eddie, the Peanut Man, in this satire on ?, yes on what? It is never clear whether this film is meant as a satire on the advertising business, the relation between West and East Germans, or both. Dietmar Klein seemed to have aimed at both, did not hit the target and came up with Eddie's story.

The film is entertaining mainly due to Grubel, as Klein has no idea how to stage and shoot visual comic scenes (another award for a director of which is not clear how it was deserved). Visual jokes that demand to be shot in medium and/or long shot to let the viewer see the effect on the situation, are done in close-up thereby killing off any effect of the joke. Nice try, though.
