The Story: A college kid (Brandon Lee) witnesses a gangland hit. Betrayed by witness protection, he’s recruited by a task force headed by a no-nonsense cop (Powers Boothe) as a pawn, but little do they know he’s more than able to handle himself against any of his foes.
The Players: Starring: Brandon Lee, Powers Boothe, Tzi Ma & Nick Mancuso. Directed by Dwight H. Little.
The History: The early nineties were the heyday of the martial arts movie star. Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme were consistently churning out hits, so if they could become icons, why not a guy like Brandon Lee? He was movie star handsome, could move, was charismatic and could act. Oh yeah – he also happened to be the son of the greatest Kung-Fu movie star of all time, Bruce Lee.
“I wouldn’t want to refer to them as stepping stones. That seems to demean them.

Mötley Crüe played a “surprise” intimate club show Friday night (June 30th) at The Underworld in London in advance of their concert at Wembley Stadium the next evening.
The band performed to around 450 attendees under the pseudonym Dogs of War — the title of a new Crüe song that has yet to be released — and ran through a setlist stacked with hits, including “Shout at the Devil,” “Too Fast for Love,” “Live Wire,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “Dr. Feelgood,” and “Kickstart My Heart” (which closed the set).
Mötley Crüe typically perform a medley of covers during their sets, and for The Underworld performance, they fused Gary Glitter’s “Rock and Roll, Part 2” with Brownsville Station’s “Smokin’ in the Boys Room,” The Beatles’ “Helter Skelter,” Sex Pistols’ “Anarchy in the U.K.,” and the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop.”
They followed the medley up with a full rendition of Beastie Boys’ “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!

Actress Kelly Ripa “passed out” while having sex with her husband Mark Consuelos and woke up in an emergency room to find herself “dressed like a cheap prostitute”.
The 51-year-old actress, who has been married to the ‘All My Children’ co-star since 1996 and has Michael, 25, Lola, 21, and 19-year-old Joaquin with him, explained that she had woken up in the emergency room early on in her marriage during the throes of passion because of large cysts on her ovaries, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Kelly Ripa is clearing the air on the strange narrative that she had a near-death encounter while getting intimate.
The talk show host was confused as anyone else when she read the news that she almost died at Jimmy Buffet’s house.
The story seemed to stem from an incident she recalled in her upcoming memoir Live Wire where she passed out during sex with her husband Mark Consuelos.
“Those are accurate stories too,” she joked on “Live with Kelly and Ryan”, via People. “I sent Ryan [Seacrest] an article because his knee hurt and I said, ‘I’ll make you feel better.'”

Kelly Ripa facetiously wanted to be sure her husband, Mark Consuelos, had adequate sun protection while sunbathing by the pool.
While wearing swim trunks and holding a straw hat to cover his lower torso, he wore shades and relaxed on his back atop a pure white towel.
His only other attire consisted of the tattoos on his right arm and a gold chain with a medal around his neck.
Mark works hard to maintain his physique. He prefers doing cardio in the morning and strength training exercises in the afternoon, which helps him maintain his body shape.
He also follows the keto diet, a high-fat, low-carb, medium-protein diet. Kelly joked that she could never be as disciplined as her husband.
“Adequate sun protection?” Kelly joked in the caption.

They’ve also seen him pull a gun on a contractor (played by Seth Rogen) who winds up stealing a homemade sex tape from his house. And in one of the more memorable moments,...

“American Idol” top four finalist Casey Bishop made a bold move Sunday night, sitting down with mentor Finneas to take on Billie Eilish’s “Wish You Were Gay.” She rocked the song’s co-writer/producer, and the judges, too — yet, despite all that love, apparently not everyone wished she would stay.
“So, you’re singing my sister’s song,” Finneas said to the 16-year-old Estero, Florida native about the track. “The greatest honor as a songwriter is hearing the song covered, and Casey has got an incredible instrument,” he continued, advising the teen to sing the song as if “these are lyrics you just thought up before you started singing.”
Dressed in white, Bishop delivered an emotional version of the song that had the judges lavishing praise on the performance.

“American Idol” kicked off season 4 on ABC on February 14. Night 2, which airs February 21, features another dozen artists hoping to win over the three judges: Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Each is hoping to number among the 150 contestants who make it to the next stage: Hollywood Week. At the end of those seven days, only 40 will make the cut.
Those two score of contestants will then take turns performing on their own and with celebrity guests. Only half of this Top 40 will move on in the competition. And from these Top 20, just 14 contestants will get put through to the live shows, which begin in early April. Half a year before Bon Scott’s death, he was riding high with his AC/DC bandmates on the North American leg of their If You Want Blood Tour. On July 21st, 1979, that trek brought them to Oakland for an appearance at the megafestival Day on the Green, where they played the same day as Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, and Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, among others. “Mavis Staples means so much more to me than any words I could write about her,” Crow, who recently performed at the gospel legend’s 80th birthday celebration in Nashville, said in a statement. “I feel like, in many ways, she is the Godmother to Bonnie Raitt. To say that having both of these soulful women on ‘Live Wire’ is a treat would be a huge understatement.

In many ways, fact-checking a movie about Mötley Crüe is a ridiculous task, especially a film that says right off the bat it is merely “based” on a true story. It’s also a film that breaks the fourth wall and tells the audience that things didn’t happen quite as they’re being presented. The whole thing is also based on a book that bassist Nikki Sixx now claims has at least one story – in which he writes that he “pretty much” raped a woman – was “possibly greatly embellished or made up.

Machine Gun Kelly), and Vince Neil (Daniel Webber) took Mötley Crüe from the Sunset Strip to the world stage, and what it meant to become the world’s most notorious rock band.

Pierce Brosnan, who stars in AMC’s new Western series The Son, recently opened up about losing his wife and daughter to ovarian cancer. Look back on People’s 1992 cover story on the British actor, as he reflected on his wife’s memory four months after her death — and the profound impact she had on his life.

Artist & producer DieTrich Thrall is known among industrial-metal fans for his work in the band Marazene (also known as Marazene Machine), who scored a hit with their extreme cover of Motley Crüe's “Live Wire” in 2011. Since then, Thrall has formed a new supergroup dubbed Beauty In The Suffering, featuring an ever-expanding lineup that includes veterans from American Head Charge, Dope, Genitorturers, Skinlab, Razorblade Dolls and many more. For their first outing as a new band, Thrall and team decided to adopt a horror motif, beginning with the track “The Crazies (The Zombie Song),” which is no doubt influenced by the horror classics of George A. Romero – not just the film of the same name, but his beloved Dead saga as well. “The Crazies” is the first of three zombie-themed songs to be incorporated into a long-form music video conceived by Thrall (which is currently in production), and you'll be hearing more about that project soon.

One Direction have become directors of their own company to avoid huge tax bills. The boyband will receive their earnings through 1D Media and Ppm Music, rather than being paid directly. Private companies in the UK pay around 28% tax on profits, compared to 50% income tax for individuals earning over £150,000 a year. Expenses such as travel, clothing and make-up also become tax-deductible. They have also changed their registered addresses to Irish accountancy firm Live Wire Business Management, which helps clients be more tax efficient. Ronan Keating, The Cranberries, Girls Aloud and Westlife have used the firm in the past. "The lads are about to get a huge cash windfall after a year in the music business," a source told The Sun. "They are on course to become very (more)...

“I don’t like writing. I like having written.”
Ah, the paradox. I don’t know who originally said it — I’ve seen everyone from Ernest Hemingway to Dorothy Parker to Oscar Madison get credit for this quote — but I know that it is stunningly true.
Some of my writer colleagues scoff at such a bad-karma sentiment. They love writing. Writing, they say, is a privilege and a passion and delight. (I don’t like hanging out with these writers,...

Not only is today Canada Day, but it also represents the first day of the free agency period in the NBA. Under normal circumstances, that's not such a big deal, as it just means that dudes who were already rich are going to get more money for wearing a different shirt in a different city. But this year is different because the crop of available free agents is the greatest it has ever been, and the contract decisions made over the next month could drastically change the face of the NBA for the next decade. The crop of players seeking new contracts includes LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Dirk Nowitzki, Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudemire and Paul Pierce. Even the second-tier players available (dudes like David Lee, Carlos Boozer, Richard Jefferson, Rudy Gay and Ray Allen) could change the complexion of a team on the brink or a squad looking to rebuild.

What does architecture mean now? Like, right now? According to Arch Is_, a new award given by the Los Angeles chapter of the American Institute of Architects, architecture means bold, gravity-defying forms, experimental materials, and patterns and behaviors inspired by nature. Aia/La recently named two firms that master these concepts--Oyler Wu Collaborative and Emergent--as its 2010 Arch Is_ winners, effectively declaring them the two firms to watch in Los Angeles this year.
Oyler Wu Collaborative, headed by Dwayne Oyler and Jenny Wu, bend simple lines into jungle-gym quality configurations like the Materials & Applications installation Density Fields (top left), a massive cantilevered structure made from aluminum tubing and polypropeleyne rope. The same material found a home in another competition-winning idea: Live Wire (above) was a staircase-like element that joined two floors of the gallery at the Southern California Instititute of Architecture (Sci-Arc).

It's hard to pinpoint exactly when John Travolta stopped doing it for me. I wouldn't peg it during his famously rock bottom years (roughly between 1983's Stayin' Alive and 1994's Pulp Fiction, Aka the Look Who's Talking Years), but rather sometime in the past few decades, when Travolta decided he wanted to stretch himself by going increasingly, well, batshit crazy onscreen.
For the record, I'm no Travolta hater. He's excellent in earlier films, as Danny Zuko in Grease, Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever (and even in the aforementioned Stayin' Alive), and Bud Davis in Urban Cowboy. The man's proven his talent and shown his range over the years, which is why it's particularly disappointing to see him hamming it up in films like the recent Wild Hogs and Old Dogs, two comedies that both star Travolta, have titles that coincidentally rhyme, and feature grown men getting hit in the crotch in their respective trailers.

It'll probably come as a shock to you, but Tim Schafer is a bit of a Rubick's Cube master. Apparently he read a book as a kid that taught him how to solve one, and he's been doing it ever since.
So when the time came to reveal the whopping 108 songs from the "Brutal Legend" soundtrack, Tim thought it might be a good idea to challenge his love of both metal and the Rubick's. So it's a race: Can someone read the full soundtrack before Tim can solve the Rubick's Cube? No spoilers, just watch the video and enjoy:
Here's the full soundtrack, in case you're curious:

3 Inches of Blood - Destroy The Orcs

When the "Batman" movie franchise had grown too swollen with campy performances and benippled costumes to survive, Warner Brothers went back to the drawing board. But they didn't just bring on a new director or actor to play Batman; they restarted the entire franchise. And if 2005's "Batman Begins," directed by Christopher Nolan, could have been written off as an elaborately reimagined prequel - since Tim Burton's 1989 "Batman" did not fully explain how Bruce Wayne became Batman or feature "Begins" villains the Scarecrow or Ra's Al Ghul - there could be no lingering doubt with Nolan's new Bat-follow-up, "The Dark Knight," where we get a totally new take on The Joker, courtesy of the late Heath Ledger.
