Bullock's performance is short...but oh so sweet!
SanDiego29 August 1999
First, you'll probably see the video title as "Me and the Mob," an attempt I guess at making it sound like the much superior "Married to the Mob." Sandra Bullock has a very small role (one and a half scenes to be exact) but the video exploits her fame by plastering her name and face on the cover as if this was a one woman show. Since the only interest in this film is Sandra Bullock, I will limit my review to her performance.

In "Wrestling Ernest Hemingway," "Demolition Man," "Speed," and "While You Were Sleeping," Sandra Bullock became America's darling, the girl-next-door. In her flops, she played/plays tough New Yaaaawkers, cute, but not great. This is one of those characterizations. However, in her primary scene, she strips down to some Frederick's of Hollywood lingerie to "three input" her boyfriend. She looks pretty good doing it, which is quite a task considering she never removes her undies (which we have already seen as not being crotchless). It's silly that the film makers chose to keep them clothed. In full dry-humping motion Sandra Bullock still does something for me. Rewind and rewind and have fun. Don't bother with the rest of the flick, I fast-forwarded it and the second Bullock appearance is no more than a walk on.

$3 for nothing

This movie is sooooo stupid. But the sad part is that I have it cause I saw Sandra Bullocks face on the cover of the video so I thought the movie is good. 1st thing is that the movie is so crapy that the name of the movie is in the dictionary describing word crap and 2nd Sandra Bullock is in the movie for like 2 minutes. Plus the acting ohhhhh my God!!!!!

Awful and amateurish... can you find worse?

The only reason I seeked WHO DO I GOTTA KILL (retitled in the DVD covers as ME & THE MOB) is because there are also Steve Buscemi and Sandra Bullock but in hindsight, I wish I could have skipped this movie!

Jimmy Corona is a writer that is recommended by his editor to write darker material, especially mafia stories. So Jimmy is helped by his uncle and joins his mob for making ends meet. Will Jimmy succedd? See the movie... or better not.

The main reason why this movie is dreadful beyond measure is the acting. The lead looks like a wimp and at some point he doesn't have the courage of killing someone his uncle ordered to. There is also a very long scene of at least 5 minutes where he puts clothed in a bathtub pouring himself with gasoline but in the end he renounces to burn himself. How can you relate to such a character? Steve Buscemi as Jimmy's former friend and Sandra Bullock as Jimmy's girlfriend who leaves him... they seriously don't have nothing to do with the plot, and you might wonder why they accepted to appear here. Maybe because it was filmed between 1991 and 1992 when they were still unknowns, or maybe they called them for making people seeing this wreck in theaters just for them, who knows. Whatever, it seemed such a waste of talent for just two minutes of appearence for both of them. The sex scene (if you can even call it this way) between Jimmy and Bullock is both awkward and painful to witness that you end up crying for not laughing. The rest is just as forgettable and not worth mentioning.

Overall, a truly piece of garbage that even occasional bad movie fans like me should avoid like poison because it's not even worth it! Bad acting by many no-names, a waste of talents (Buscemi and Bullock), lazy direction, lackluster editing (compared to this THE ROOM is like THE GODFATHERs) and lots of awkward situations that I quickly erased from my memory... all these are the perfect ingredients for a recipe for disaster! I was even bound to leave it, and I am amazed that I managed to watch it until the very end for how bad it was, and I can see why only 5 users apart me dared to review it.

In substance, a piece of bile that nobody should ever witness. And if you stumble upon this movie or someone recommends it to you, run!

comedy

This movie rocks. Jimmy Corona is perfect in the lead role. Lots of laughs and plenty old faces from soprano's and other gangster films. This is one i watch when i want a good laugh and yet it still seems to hold serious at times. The characters are splendid. its fast moving all the way and has some great dialogue. Steve Bucemi pops up briefly and good as always. i would say give this movie a couple of tries as i bought this for the 3rd time after throwing it in the trash twice, it grows on you. the music score is perfect. The best line is "im with the bagatelle's now and you owe them money, this time next week you will not owe them money capish" Jimmy Corona/Jimmy Keys..

A movie Sandra Bullock may want to forget!
Guy14323 April 1999
Now I am not going to dog this movie all the way because being the little indie film it is, it entertained me. Though Bullock's role is very little and her only two scenes are dealing with sex, she still made the screen light up when she appeared. The acting isn't top quality and the director could have done better, but if you want to see it go right ahead. It's a crime comedy, reminding me of an indie 'Analyze This' type, but its main category should be drama. It was boring in some parts and you might not want to watch the whole movie in one sitting. Over all, I say it was a good movie to help Bullock on her way, but if she wasn't in it, I might have never bought the movie.

A too weak notice

Warning: Spoilers
Update at August 2008

While I like Who Do I Gotta Kill?, aka Me and the Mob, I find the comments here reassuring. My memory is of them saying that this is a disjointed feature that has nothing to do with reality. In the sex with panties on scene some even assume that his impression is true, that it is full sex. I do find all that reassuring. There are some things that should not be broadcast.

Except the comments did not say this, it is just my memory of them.

This is a low budget story about a man who has had success as a professional writer of books and articles. In some key ways he has managed to start off okay. I sank at the basic education stage.

Age 30 and he sinks. His abilities for work have become unreal. His girl leaves him and leaves the new, expensive, lingerie on the floor, next to him. He does not even realise that the break up sex missed out on a certain detail. I prefer this to be considered as an unreal feature. I have no objections to no-one else loving this story. I have qualms about the bullock heading off to mostly nice twisty pretzel roles after Speed as for me these early works with her are the down to earth bobcat. Ya-Ya. Best to leave the bobcat behind.

Me and the Mob is way too unreal in some ways. The stories and his informer, if one has not been tied up in such ways then I have to assume that one will get a rather misleading idea of the reality there, one will get an outsider's view. At least this is a sympathetic outsider's view.

Childhood religion. We are accountable for each of our perceived mistakes. Unless we have not blown it on forgiveness, of course. I say perceived as even foreigners and cows and debarked dogs could get accountability in our town, once upon a time.

SPOILERS

Two If By Sea 1996, aka Stolen Hearts. I find the first few minutes of that, the parts in the car, to be demonstrating what a masterwork is about. The song written and partly sung by an aging Irish man. I probably got the aging wrong as it does not sound it, it just sounds mature and is placed in a way that shows maturity by the director. Haunted, but not blatantly and crudely symbolic. Apart from the painting, of course. And the cat. Bobcat. A couple who are heading for a romance weekend on an island, getting there by cars, then train, then boat. Except they are haunted and making mistakes. Escalating trouble. There is bobcat after Speed. Ya-Ya. Bobcat with a bigger production budget, if with a need to hide skin.

For me, there is something potentially distasteful about these stories. But I find that these manage to avoid the most blatant mistakes and come up with something worthwhile. True, Me and the Mob should not be revisited all that often, occasionally definitely yes. Early Bullock is okay, to me.
