Summer has ended, and school is in session as Quinta Brunson and Abbott Elementary taught a masterclass at the 6th Annual Black Reel TV Awards presented by idobi.
Brunson and her freshman comedy, Abbott Elementary proved that it’s just simple math as they racked up seven wins at this year’s Black Reel Television Awards. She won four awards on her own as she received Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for Abbott Elementary and Outstanding Guest Actress for A Black Lady Sketch Show. Brunson triumphed in a surprise upset of the comedy actress category over Issa Rae, the sentimental favorite, in her farewell season of Insecure.
While Glover led the pack in individual nominations with five, he was able to take home one win for Outstanding Actor, Comedy Series for Atlanta.

Even though nominations for the 74th annual Emmy Awards were announced a month ago, an exclusive list of individuals have reason to celebrate all over again. The TV academy recently added the nominations credits for producers on series. A whopping 27 performers, writers, and directors now have two or more bids in 2022 for their work in front of and behind the camera.
Extending his advantage at the top of this impressive list, Bill Hader has received six nominations this year. He returns to the Comedy Actor category for “Barry,” earned bids for Comedy Writing and Comedy Directing for the HBO series for episodes “starting now” and “710N,” respectively, and now adds a nomination in the Comedy Series category as an executive producer. The performer also netted a Comedy Guest Actor bid for his hilarious turn as relatives Igor, Gregor, and Timor on an 11th season episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Happy Pretzel Day
“The Office” launched “Superfan” editions of all six of its Season 1 episodes on NCBUniversal’s streaming service Peacock Monday in honor of Pretzel Day — the greatest of all days.
When “The Office” arrived on Peacock in January after leaving its longtime streaming home Netflix, the first batch of “Superfan Episodes” for the beloved NBC sitcom were also added to the platform. However, those 23 “Superfan Episodes” were all supersized Season 3 installments, with Peacock promising extended cuts would be coming for the shows other eight seasons at a later date.
Now they’re back with Season 1, which includes extended cuts of all six first-season episode of “The Office”: “Pilot,” “Diversity Day,” “Health Care,” “The Alliance,” “Basketball” and “Hot Girl.”

A dream comedy duo is getting a rude awakening: ABC has scrapped plans for a sitcom starring Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer, according to our sister site Deadline, even though the network had previously given it a straight-to-series order.
The decision to nix the untitled multi-cam comedy was made “after the network’s executives saw the finished pilot episode,” Deadline reports. The series would’ve starred Baldwin and Grammer (both winners of multiple Emmys for their runs on 30 Rock and Frasier, respectively) as two of three men — former roommates in their twenties whose “warring egos drove them apart” — who...

Director Óskar Jónasson is mostly known here in Iceland as a comedy director, having made the film Sódóma Reykjavík (Remote Control) in the early 90’s that shot him up to fame and the film has become a true comedy classic over here. He followed that up with another comedy and then went on to direct some of the more popular comedy sketch shows over here. So it came as a surprise that he was writing and slated to direct a straight thriller, co-written by the author of Jar City, Arnaldur Indriðason and starring the director of that film Baltasar Kormákur and even the lead actor Ingvar E. Sigurðsson (it’s a small country).
Now Icelandic thrillers do not have what you would call a rosy history. All past attempts have failed miserably so when Jar City came along and showed us that it could be done, if you put your mind to it,...
