What happens when a fake hit man blurs the lines between reality and fiction? The true story of a professor going undercover acts as a starting point for Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man” (read our review). Its premise goes well beyond the events written about by Texas Monthly’s Skip Hollandsworth. Instead, the film takes a fictional journey into what could have happened between two people under different circumstances.

For a guy who wears some big boots, it’s all about baby steps for our boy Cordi. In TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek (which you can watch above) of the April 17 episode of Walker, “Lessons from the Gift Shop,” our favorite Texas Ranger (Jared Padalecki) is making a grand-ish romantic gesture to his lady love (Odette Annable), and it’s sweeter than Sweet Tea, y’all. Friends since high school, Geri was besties with Cordi’s future wife Emily (Genevieve Padalecki) and dating his ride-or-die, Hoyt Rawlins (Matt Barr). Before the show launched, the close-knit crew was rocked by the tragedy of Em’s murder and a bit of betrayal—while Cordell entered law enforcement, Hoyt fell into a life of crime. Things seemed to be getting back...

The love story of Hollywood star Kirsten Dunst and her husband Jesse Plemons feels like a script straight out of a romantic comedy. Their journey began when the two star-struck lovers first crossed paths at an airport, just before officially meeting on the sets of Fargo. After a five-year engagement and welcoming two sons, they finally exchanged vows in 2022. Recently, Dunst opened up about the enchanting experience of falling in love with the Peter Parker of her life.

In terms of hit songs, a few stand out from the rest. While songs like Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me,” Doja Cat’s “Agora Hills,” Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Carnival,” Tate McRae’s “Greedy”, and Teddy Swims’s “Lose Control” (he’d also need to submit a live version) will likely be big contenders for nominations, there are four songs that, to me at least, currently sound like possible winners.

We knew from early on that Kane Hodder (who did stunt work on Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III) was doing the motion-capture performance for the Leatherface character in the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham – a game that is now available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Later we learned the names of the other mo-cap performers: Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) as The Hitch-hiker; Troy Burgess (Swedish Dicks) as The Cook; Kristina Klebe (Don’t Kill It) as new killer character Sissy; Dove Meir (Dig) as new killer character Johnny; Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween), did the mo-cap for all of the female victim characters; and Hunter C. Smith (Lucky) did the mo-cap for all of the male victim characters. But the Grandpa character is in the game as well. Who did his mo-cap performance?...

Now that Gun Interactive’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is out in the wild, just how is the game faring with players? According to Gun Interactive themselves, the asymmetrical multiplayer title is doing just fine. Well, more than fine.
As revealed on their official Twitter/X account, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has seen over a million players across consoles and PC in the 24 hours since the game went live. In case you were curious, the developers didn’t reveal just yet how many Victims survived the Slaughter Family, and how many were turned into BBQ.
Gun Interactive also didn’t break down the numbers of players who bought the game, and who were enjoying it on Xbox Game Pass. Still, having over one million players playing your game right out of the gate is no small feat. The real test will be maintaining the player base count, which...

The events of director Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it Here) took place on August 18, 1973. Today marks the fiftieth anniversary of those events, and Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham are celebrating in the best way possible: by releasing their new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One! With launch day comes the unveiling of a new trailer for the game, and you can check that out in the embed above.
Matches of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game pit 4 victim characters against 3 killer characters. The story of the game has the following set-up: When Maria Flores went missing, and local law enforcement seemed to stall out in their search, her younger sister Ana teamed up with some of Maria’s friends from college to pick up the trail. The game takes place before the events of the original film.

Who — or what — is knocking on the wall? That’s the mystery at the center of Samuel Bodin’s feature directorial debut, “Cobweb,” which unveiled its first trailer on Wednesday.
As the trailer lays out, a young boy named Peter is hearing a chronic knocking behind his bedroom wall. But his overly amiable parents, played with menacing glee by Lizzy Caplan (“Fatal Attraction”) and Antony Starr (“The Boys”), chalk it up to his overactive imagination. But as Peter becomes more afraid, the question is whether his parents might be involved in something horrifying.
There’s an old-school “Tales From the Crypt” vibe to everything, though the movie is playing up its echoes of “Barbarian,” aided by the fact that producer Roy Lee worked on both features. Caplan and Starr seem perfectly suited to playing frightening parents with a secret, more so if you’ve watched their previous work over the last year or so.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham is set to be released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on August 18th. The perfect date, since director Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it Here) was set on August 18, 1973. The social media profiles for the game have given us the heads-up that outlets are going to start taking pre-orders for physical copies of the game soon (for the suggested price of $39.99) – and they have also posted clips of gameplay that show us the special skills that can be used by the killer characters Johnny and Sissy.
While the game features the homicidal characters from the original Chainsaw film, newly created characters Johnny and Sissy were also added into the mix to give players more options.
Matches of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game will pit 4 victim characters against 3 killer characters.

German director Wim Wenders will be feted with France’s prestigious Lumière Award at the 15th edition of the classic film-focused Lumière Festival in Lyon, running October 14-22.
He follows in the footsteps of Catherine Deneuve, Pedro Almodóvar, Jane Fonda, Martin Scorsese, Jane Campion, the Dardenne brothers, as well as Clint Eastwood, the first recipient, and Tim Burton, as the 2022 laureate.
The Lumière Film Festival and the Lumière Award were launched in 2009 by twin-hatted Cannes Film Festival Delegate General Thierry Frémaux, in his other role as director of the Institut Lumière in Lyon.
“An emblematic figure of the revival of European cinema at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, he is the director of Paris, Texas and Wings of Desire, a man who has pursued his trajectory as an artist and has just achieved a smashing double triumph with his two most recent films, Anselm and Perfect Days,” the...

In a career so far spanning 50 years, Stephen King has published 65 novels (with a 66th imminent) and more than 200 short stories. His books have sold more than 400 million copies worldwide, and have been regularly snapped up for film and TV adaptation. As a brand name, King is almost as prolific on screen as in print, with at least 60 movies (not even including the eight sequels to Children Of The Corn) and 50 shows to date, with more always incoming.
Cinematically, however, while some of the author’s adaptations are clear-eyed classics, the King association has not always been a guarantee of quality. In the early days, the gold rush to mine his back catalogue yielded more turkeys than treasure. So, with Rob Savage out this week (based on a 1973 short story in King’s _Night Shift collection), Empire have put together a list of the 15 greatest big-screen versions of the legendary scribe’s stories.

It may be apocryphal, but apparently when he attended a cinema club screening of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, then director of the BBFC James Ferman said something along the lines of “It’s all right for you middle-class cineastes to see this film, but what would happen if a factory worker in Manchester happened to see it?” This snobbery, and Ferman’s insistence that it wasn’t any one image that kept him from granting the film an X (later 18) certificate but ‘an atmosphere of madness, threat and impeding violence’ kept The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from the eyes of the great unwashed until Ferman’s retirement in 1999.

The original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a movie that was based on the build-up of tension, until it became unbearable for the audience, with an explosion of violence that many don’t forget. Made in 1974, it has had sequels, been remade in many forms through the years and Netflix are the latest to give an attempt to revamp the series with a follow up to the original. The question is, does it live up to the original?

The Broken Skull Sessions began with Steve Austin talking to The Undertaker. The second episode saw Austin talk with Bill Goldberg, and now, on the third episode, we see The Texas Rattlesnake sit down and talk wrestling, politics and life with “The Big Red Machine” Kane.
I was excited when this episode was announced in the same way I was when I heard about Austin’s episode with The Undertaker. Kane is a character I watched from his debut until, well… right now when he makes the odd appearance on WWE television, and his long and winding career has been something I’ve wanted to hear about for a long while. He was, after all, in a similar way to ‘Taker, very protected by WWE as far as hearing real-life stuff from him during his run. It's a sad day to be a moderately rated NBC freshman series.
The Peacock network has officially canceled The Village, The Enemy Within and Abby's.

If Issa Rae were a queer woman, “Insecure” might look more like “195 Lewis,” a show so stylish, sexy, and assured that it has steadily built momentum by word of mouth since its festival premiere over a year ago. Set in the heart of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, “195 Lewis” follows a black lesbian couple as they strive to practice radical honesty in their newly polyamorous relationship. Inspired by real characters from the award-winning book “Sex Trafficking” by Harvard professor Siddharth Kara, Will Wallace’s “Trafficked” follows a trio of intertwining stories about young women forced into the world of human, organ, drug, and gun trafficking. The film focuses on three girls — from America, Nigeria, and India — who, though horrific experiences in the trafficking world, end up as sex slaves in a Texas brothel.

Randy Travis is one determined country singer ... he's filed yet another lawsuit, gunning for the Texas officials who want to release a video of his Dwi arrest. Travis was arrested in 2012 for a Dwi in Texas ... he had crashed his Trans Am and tried to walk naked into a convenience store after the crash. Randy cursed the arresting officers, wishing they got cancer. He also threatened to shoot one with 60 rounds and bury him under a barn.

David O. Selznick’s absurdly over-cooked western epic is a great picture, even if much of it induces a kind of hypnotic, mouth-hanging-open disbelief. Is this monument to the sex appeal of Jennifer Jones, Kitsch in terrible taste, or have Selznick and his army of Hollywood talents found a new level of hyped melodramatic harmony? It certainly has the star-power, beginning with Gregory Peck as a cowboy rapist who learned his bedside manners from Popeye’s Bluto. It’s all hugely enjoyable.

Leonardo DiCaprio and his girlfriend, Nina Agdal, enjoyed a quiet dinner at Zuma in New York City on Wednesday. The cute couple dined alongside Sean Penn and rapper Q-Tip, sharing sushi plates of Zuma’s Robata grilled fare and rounds of cocktails.
While DiCaprio and crew grabbed a bite in the Big Apple, the happily uncoupled Jennie Garth and her ex-husband, Peter Facinelli, brought their significant others along for a family vacation at the recently opened Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort in Cancun, Mexico. The tropical getaway was Garth and Facinelli’s first vacay together since their 2013 divorce, alongside their daughters, Lola, 14, and Fiona, 10.
They all enjoyed the resort's Unlimited Luxury amenities, including pampering at the Dreams Spa by Pevonia, riding down the resor's awesome water slides ,parasailing, gourmet dining at on-site restaurant Gaucho and plenty of ice cream. It's been a rather fun week in movie news. Check out all of the new posters and trailers that dropped this week below!
Deadpool 2:
First of all, how amazing is Logan? The X-Men film essentially redefines the genre, and we were blown away by it. Not only was the movie stellar, but we also got an extra treat with it, in a hilarious appearance by our other favourite R-Rated superhero, Deadpool. Playing before Logan and including some visual clues (including "Firefly" posters in the background and Logan listed on the marquee of a movie theatre Deadpool passes), this was an awesome surprise that made Logan even more sweet. When Paul McCartney shocked the world in April 1970 with his announcement of the Beatles' break-up, drummer Ringo Starr added a surprise of his own by becoming (initially, at least) the most musically active member of the former Fab Four.
As he would later recount in the lyrics of "Early 1970," the deceptively jaunty b-side of his 1971 hit "It Don't Come Easy," Starr was the only Beatle who didn't have any serious beef with any other member of the band at the time. Feeling lost without the family dynamic of the musical...

Like some of the best illustrations that graced the covers of fantasy novels and heavy metal albums in the ’70s and ’80s, Arik Roper's artwork is a portal to another world brimming with adventure and endless possibilities. Ahead of his appearance as a featured artist at MondoCon 2016 this weekend in Austin, TX, we caught up with Roper for a special "Meet the Artist" Q&A feature, and we also have a look at some of the eye-popping artwork he'll be bringing to this year's MondoCon.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Arik. What sparked your initial interest in being an artist?
Arik Roper: It was a natural path for me, being an artist. Both my parents were artists. I was surrounded by it and I instinctively was drawn toward it, and received a lot of encouragement.
Your art often transports people deep into the realms of fantasy and horror.

Part of the fun in rounding up recent books about (or connected to) cinema is the sheer diversity of releases. This latest collection features a dive into this history of Hollywood legends, lots more Force Awakens, compelling reads from two fascinating critics, texts highlighting the art of Batman v. Superman and The Little Prince, and more. Plus, if you’ve been coveting Constable Zuvio mentions, you’re finally in luck.
Movie Freak: My Life Watching Movies by Owen Gleiberman (Hachette Books)
My favorite book of 2016 thus far has arrived, and it’s Movie Freak by former Entertainment Weekly critic Owen Gleiberman. For many a nineties teen, EW was something of a pop culture bible, and Gleiberman’s incisive writing was a key reason. In Movie Freak, his unguardedly personal memoir, he talks of films loved (Blue Velvet, Manhunter), friendships dashed (with the likes of Oliver Stone and Pauline Kael), and...

Despite the name Hotel Dallas and general premise surrounding a replica of Southfork Ranch (where both the old and new Dallas series were filmed) built in Romania by an aspiring capitalist, husband and wife directing duo Sherng-Lee Huang and Livia Ungur‘s film is really about a country crippled under its past that’s still unsure of its future. It’s about art and its ability to speak to people’s hearts and souls whether seeking to do so or not. It’s also about a young girl who grew to embrace a vocation that one day allowed her to work alongside her childhood celebrity crush: Patrick Duffy. Part documentary, soap opera-y restaging of history, memory curio, and love letter to home, this art piece is as uniquely informative as imaginatively wild.

Popular Dallas food reporter Stacy Fawcett - known as "Dallas' Favorite Foodie," on Channel 8's News 8 Daybreak - has died, People confirms. In a statement obtained by People, the Plano Police Department confirmed that Fawcett, 45, and her son Josiah Utu, 17, both suffered fatal stab wounds early Friday when Fawcett's eldest son 19-year-old McCann Utu Jr. attacked the pair before stabbing himself. After the incident, a male suspect contacted police, telling the 911 operator that he had committed murder. Officers were then dispatched to the home in Plano, Texas - a suburb 20 miles north of Dallas - where they "made entry into...

A massive stroke in 2013 left Randy Travis with a vocabulary limited mostly these days to "yes" and "no." But on Tuesday, he haltingly coaxed out two more words - "thank you" - as he accepted country music's highest honor: a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Struggling to say more, the 56-year-old artist finally motioned for his wife, Mary, to take over what she herself called the "daunting task of being the voice of this man who so eloquently put words to melody to make beautiful music." The poignant moment capped the announcement of the Hall's 2016 class, which...

It's almost time for a new Richard Linklater movie! To celebrate the occasion, Austin-based theater chain Alamo Drafthouse is going all-out with a new Mondo poster and a special line of beer that they'll be selling at Drafthouse theaters. The new Mondo poster comes from artist Matt Taylor and it's a rather trippy design, fitting for the film that is supposedly similar in vibe to Linklater's Dazed and Confused. The new beer is made by Austin Beerworks and is described as a "dry-hopped Texas Common Beer", available around Austin soon. "Paying tribute to Rick's latest with a one-of-a-kind beer from one of my favorite breweries? It's exactly the kind of project that excites us and blurs the line between work and fun," stated Tim League. Here's a photo of the beer for Everybody Wants Some made by Austin Beerworks, found on Twitter: And here's the new Mondo poster designed by...

When American cinemas began midnight programming in the 1970s, they typically scheduled films that were either too weird for the mainstream or so bad they really were worth watching. In those pre-internet, pre-vcr days, a midnight movie was something illicit, a chance to watch something you might never see again.
Matinee screenings might’ve featured Charlton Heston saving a stricken airliner or surviving a Los Angeles earthquake, but the night belonged to El Topo, Alejandro Jodorowsky’s weird Western, and Night Of The Living Dead, which ushered in the era of grim, downbeat horror pictures.
Decades later, despite the competition from home entertainment, the midnight movie was alive and well and playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, where James Nguyen’s Birdemic was revelling in its newly-acquired status as one of the worst films ever made. The movie proved so popular during its limited theatrical run that a sequel,...

Mondo has a new art coming up called Snikt. Bamf. Thwip: A Celebration of Marvel Comics and we have some cool illustrations from it to share with you. Some of our favorite heroes will be reimagined by popular artists, including Tom Whalen, Matt Taylor, Becky Cloonan, and Matthew Woodson.
When talking about the upcoming exhibit, Mondo Creative Director Mitch Putnam had this to say:
It’s probably no surprise that the Marvel Comics universe holds a special place in every Mondoer’s heart. These characters inspired us, helped to shape who we are, and taught us life lessons that stuck with us forever (our own Eric Garza still pretty much thinks he’s Wolverine). Toronto – Americans often lament the influence of corporations in politics. And, of course, news organizations have made their political prejudices clear since the printing press was invented centuries ago. What often gets lost is the sometimes symbiotic relationship between all three entities. James Vanderbilt’s “Truth,” which debuted at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, is a striking reminder of how a corporation’s political needs can take precedence over their journalistic endeavors to disastrous effect. In September 2004, veteran CBS news producer Mary Mapes (Cate Blanchett) oversaw a piece for the now defunct Wednesday night version of “60 Minutes” about President George W. Bush’s service in the Texas Air National Guard. Bush was running for reelection and leading in the polls partially thanks to third party attacks on the Vietnam War record of the Democratic nominee, John Kerry. Mapes was provided memos that questioned Bush’s service and landed an interview with Ben Barnes,...

We may remember Independence Day, The Matrix, The Phantom Menace. But what about these forgotten 90s sci-fi films? And are any worth seeing?

But what about the sci-fi films of the 1990s that failed to make even close to the same cultural and financial impact of those big hitters?
