- The methods mesmer uses to heal his patients is to put his hands on their bodies and "stroke" out the pains that ails them. Many of his patients are female and he frequently strokes his hands over their breasts during his healing processes. The patients' reactions are very physical and sometimes sexual in nature; in one part of the film it seems a group of women have a mass orgasm due to his physical influence over them.
