After several attempts to reboot one of the great fantasy classics of world literature, See-Saw Films, producer of Oscar winners The King’s Speech and The Power of the Dog, has signed a deal to adapt The Neverending Story as a series of live-action feature films.
Michael Ende’s novel, published in German in 1979 and in English in 1983, follows the story of a young boy, Bastian Balthazar Bux, who falls into the world of the titular fantasy book The Neverending Story, entering the magical land of Fantastica. He becomes the hero of the story, tasked with saving Fantastica from destruction.
A global bestseller —it has been translated into 45 languages and has sold millions of copies worldwide — The Neverending Story was adapted as a trilogy of films in the 1980s and early 90s, most famously by Wolfgang Petersen in The Neverending Story in 1984. With a fresh poster for a supposed 2024 Never Ending Story remake currently making the rounds on social media, fan speculation is swirling about whether the rumors of a sequel are fact or fiction.
The NeverEnding Story is a popular fantasy movie released in 1984. Based upon the book of the same name by Michael Ende, the film starred Noah Hathaway and Barrett Oliver.
Two sequels spawned from the success of the original: The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter and The NeverEnding Story III: Escape from Fantasia. Though neither reached the heights of popularity the first movie achieved, the second and third parts were universally panned.

With so many horrible sequels available, picking the ten worst sequels of all time was challenging. Indeed, there have been numerous instances where sequels have fallen far short of their original counterparts, making them infamous examples of ‘how not to do a sequel.’
Thankfully, viewers on IMDb did most of the work for us, sharing their valuable insights and ratings, which we’ve used to compile this list.
What follows is a painstakingly curated breakdown of each terrible sequel. We delve into what specifically made these follow-ups lackluster and disappointing. Some of these sequels found their unfortunate place on this list despite being birthed from incredibly successful and well-received franchises.
They had every ingredient for success – a captive audience, proven characters, and established lore, yet they managed to fumble. Conversely, others continued on an already rocky path of subpar predecessor films, cementing their series as characterized by chronic cinematic failure.

Are you ready to be reunited with Atreyu and Falkor in the mythical land of Fantasia? With fantasy epics being a hot commodity with properties like Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings extending their universes with new shows, Deadline reports that classic children’s favorite, The Neverending Story, is now in a bidding war for the rights to the fantasy IP.
The German estate for the creator and author of the property, Michael Ende, is seeing many interested parties from streaming companies and studios. There are multi-million dollars being thrown around to secure the rights for the fantasy epic. The company, Ava, which represents the Ende estate, has yet to comment on the activity.

With over 40 films under his belt, Jack Black has quite the resume.
He made his film debut as a political groupie in 1992's "Bob Roberts." He was also Sean Penn's brother in "Dead Man Walking," the head of "The Nasties" in "The Neverending Story III," and target practice for Bruce Willis in "The Jackal."
But none of those roles made a mark: It's his wild child rock persona we loved in "School of Rock" and "High Fidelity," not to mention his teddy-bear soft side in "The Holiday" and the movies that prove he can more than hold his own as a dramatic actor. (Insert off-color joke here.)
In honor of Black's birthday, raise your goblet of rock to toast his 17 best movie roles.

Jack Black's new film, "The D Train" is -- believe it or not -- the comedian's 46th movie. He made his film debut as a political groupie in 1992's "Bob Roberts." Bless you, direct-to-dvd industry, for churning out endlessly amusing extensions of movies that never should have been franchises in the first place. An EW staffer casually mentioned the third Ace Ventura movie earlier today, inspiring a group of us to reminisce about the most random sequels we could think of — sequels many of us were hearing about for the first time.
And so, in honor of both these little-discussed gems and the gift that is Friday afternoon, here’s a list of the genre’s most unassuming entries. Caution: It’s about to get all nostalgic up in here. (Like that’s a surprise.

[1] I've always had this fascination with seeing current rich and famous figures in their humble beginnings, and the success of tabloid columns and webpages devoted to that very topic suggest I'm not the only one. When some A-list faces are as familiar to us as those of our actual loved ones, seeing long-ago photos or videos of them is amusing in the same way that seeing pictures of your friends as little kids is amusing. "Before They Were Famous: 25 Actors in 3 Minutes" collects some especially amusing snippets of today's biggest stars, including Angelina Jolie, Ryan Gosling, Jack Nicholson, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, in some of their earliest acting gigs. Watch the video after the jump. They're not all first-time roles -- I'd argue that Seth Rogen in Donnie Darko hardly counts as even a pre-fame role, as he'd already starred in Freaks & Geeks by then -- but the clips collected here...

Jeff Lieberman is a writer, producer, and director that has worked in the genre numerous times (Blue Sunshine, Squirm, Satan's Little Helper, Just Before Dawn, Remote Control) and outside of the genre including kid friendly fare like The Neverending Story III. Lieberman is a director that is all about the mood and atmosphere and uses that to create heart stopping suspense. Most of his films might not be the most familiar, but he has done a solid job right down the line on every single film. If anything, he can be counted on for consistency even if he works infrequently.
Who is Jeff Lieberman and what is he all about?
I usually leave it to others to speculate what I'm 'all about.' Outside of my work credits, from horror genre movies like 'Squirm' 'Blue Sunshine' 'Just Before Dawn' 'Remote Control' 'Satan's Little Helper' and numerous non genre more mainstream credits,...
