The Story: A college kid (Brandon Lee) witnesses a gangland hit. Betrayed by witness protection, he’s recruited by a task force headed by a no-nonsense cop (Powers Boothe) as a pawn, but little do they know he’s more than able to handle himself against any of his foes.
The Players: Starring: Brandon Lee, Powers Boothe, Tzi Ma & Nick Mancuso. Directed by Dwight H. Little.
The History: The early nineties were the heyday of the martial arts movie star. Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme were consistently churning out hits, so if they could become icons, why not a guy like Brandon Lee? He was movie star handsome, could move, was charismatic and could act. Oh yeah – he also happened to be the son of the greatest Kung-Fu movie star of all time, Bruce Lee.
“I wouldn’t want to refer to them as stepping stones. That seems to demean them.

"Stay away from my friends, my theater, and my neighborhood." Shout has debuted the official trailer for an indie action comedy titled Showdown at the Grand, from filmmaker Orson Oblowitz. This trailer has been out for a few weeks, but we're just catching up with it – looks like some harmless fun. It's an 80s action movie homage with a big battle at a vintage cinema. A proud movie theater owner honors action star turned recluse "Claude Luc Hallyday" with a retrospective of his illustrious career but when real estate developers show up to ruin the party, the two new friends must fight off corporate greed in the name of art. Showdown stars Terrence Howard, John Savage, Amanda Righetti, Piper Curda, and Swedish badass Dolph Lundgren as Claude Luc Hallyday. Looks like an entertaining tribute to movies they don't make anymore, and the way theaters used to be. Though it's also fairly cheesy & cliche,...

Juliana Hatfield has announced a new addition to her series of covers albums. Juliana Hatfield Sings Elo drops November 17th via American Laundromat Records, while her rendition of “Don’t Bring Me Down” is out now.
As indie rock royalty, it may come as a surprise that Hatfield would enjoy the pop stylings of Electric Light Orchestra. Yet you could easily trace her inarguably catchy music to the band’s melodies. “Elo songs were always coming on the radio when I was growing up. They were a reliable source of pleasure and fascination,” Hatfield said in a statement. “With this album of covers I wanted to get my hands deep into some of the massive ‘70’s hits but I am also shining a light on some of the later work… My task was to try and break all the things down and reconstruct them subtly until they felt like mine.

The upcoming western Taken from Rio Bravo has received its first trailer and we’re pleased to present it exclusively here on JoBlo!
The action-packed trailer starts off with an attempted robbery that results in juuuust about everybody getting a bullet to the chest courtesy of one nasty gunslinger. He joins forces with the seemingly more cautious sheriff, out to find his soon-to-be bride, nabbed by a group of bastards who take women over the border into Mexico. Judging by the trailer, Taken from Rio Bravo looks to be a tightly constructed picture with plenty of gunplay. And yes, that is our very own John Fallon in the trailer!
The official plot synopsis of Taken from Rio Bravo: “The action western sees the return of the mysterious Russian gunslinger who teams up with a sheriff in pursuit of a gang of sadistic human traffickers known as The Posse, who have kidnapped five women.

The Beatles outshine a lot of classic rock bands. Despite this, there are several other classic rock bands that deserve love from Beatles fans. John Lennon even called one band “Son of Beatles.”
The Beatles | Mark and Colleen Hayward / Contributor 5. The Electric Light Orchestra
The book Lennon on Lennon: Conversations with John Lennon includes a radio interview with John from 1974. In it, John decided to play a certain song. “We’re going to play Electric Light Orchestra, from last year,” he said. “‘Showdown,’ which I thought was a great record, and I was expecting it to be No. 1, but I don’t think UA [United Artists] got their fingers out and pushed it.
“And it’s a nice group,” he added. “I call them Son of Beatles, although they’re doing things that we never did, obviously. But I remember the statement they made when they first formed was to...

Look, up in the sky! It's not a bird or a plane, but it's definitely one heck of a treat for fans of the big blue boy scout superhero. Superman may have experienced a bit of a rocky road in recent DC history on the big screen, despite an actor as capable and charismatic as Henry Cavill leading the action and even with James Gunn's promise that the immensely popular hero will be a "huge priority" moving forward. But even the biggest DC fans would have to admit that there's a certain ineffable charm to the original movies that first made audiences believe that a man could truly fly.

The 1990s had a plethora of action films, and movies in general, released direct-to-video. The film rental business was booming, and some video stores even hosted signing events with the stars to promote the films and their business. Direct to video action films were the most popular Dtv genre (next to soft-core erotica) and they were produced by the ton. Every week brought a new bunch of options to your local Blockbuster or Mom & Pop store. For the purpose of this list, the titles selected are fun watches even now, that were released direct-to-video for the majority of the population, and they were decently popular on the video store shelves. Without further ado, here are 5 of our favorites!

Why do we respond to some filmmakers and not others?
I’m a pretty film literate guy, so I’ve seen my share of both classics and avant-garde movies and understand both the films that influenced them and those on which they had a big influence. I don’t mind being challenged or taken outside of my comfort zone. But the older I get and the more movies I see, the more I resign myself to the notion that I like what I like and that I shouldn’t try to fight those feelings in the interest of appearing “highbrow.” If it comes down to a classy mess or good trash, I’ll take the good trash any day.
This brings me to the two newest Blu-ray releases from Vestron Video’s Collector’s Series line: Ken Russell’s 1986 effort Gothic and the 1990 sci-fi actioner Class of 1999, written and directed by Mark L. Lester.

Born in the Big Apple in january of 1951, Sheldon Lettich moved with his family to the West Coast at a young age. After finishing High School, he joined the Marine Corps, serving his country for four years, one of them as a Radio Operator in Vietnam.
Partially based upon his experiences in Southeast Asia, he co-authored Tracers, a play seen in the Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago and London stages, to great acclaim; It subsequently won the prestigious Drama Desk and L.A. Drama Critics Awards.
The writing of screenplays seemed like a natural progression and his writing eventually began attracting the attention of many Hollywood producers.
