Glen : Where's Elvis?
Annie : I don't know. I told him to stay up on the beach. Oh, no.
Glen : What?
Annie : I broke a promise.
Glen : What promise?
Annie : [runs back to camp] I even did a spit-shake on it.
Glen : You did a spit-shake with somebody?
Annie : [to the people standing in the crowd] Excuse me.
Glen : Man, that's serious.
-
Jesse : [arrives at the cannery, stomps the ground a couple times before tossing a stick at the seagulls] Get out of here.
[Jesse then sits on a stool in sadness and anger for a few seconds until Glen shows up]
Jesse : How could she ditch me and then have another kid?
Glen : I don't know, Jess. I can't answer that one for you.
Jesse : I really thought if I was good and I believed enough, she'd come back for me.
Glen : She's not coming back, Jesse.
Jesse : I know. I know.
[Jesse's gets up to wipe the tears off his eyes]
Jesse : It's the cold air. It gets in my eyes.
Glen : Forget about that. It's okay. Listen, your little brother's gonna come live with us for a couple weeks. Dwight and Annie got it worked out already. It's called, uh, "kingship care".
Jesse : Uh, man.
Glen : You're his only living relative, so he's gonna stay with us for a couple of weeks till Dwight finds a more permanent place for him to be.
Jesse : Yeah, or until Annie falls in love with him, never lets me leave.
Glen : [laughs] Exactly.
Jesse : This sucks.
Glen : Yeah, it kind of does, I guess. But, it'll be alright. You'll see.
[Glen gives Jesse his harmonica]
Glen : You dropped something.
-
Annie : So how did you get the name Elvis, Elvis?
Elvis : My mom.
Glen : Gee, that's funny. That's how I got mine too.
Elvis : Whatever. I'm going to be a big movie star. Just like my dad.
Jesse : Yeah, right.
Elvis : My dad, you know, Al Pacino. My friends call me the Godfather.
Jesse : Give me a break.
-
Glen : Listen, I was a lot like you when I was your age. When Annie's kinda worried about this, she wants me to talk to you and she thinks that kind of behavior is dangerous.
Jesse : Nadine thought so too. But it's practically safe. I know exactly what I'm doing.
Glen : I use to think the same thing.
Jesse : Huh?
Glen : Oh, yeah.
Jesse : Well, I'm practically an expert.
Glen : Yeah, well, listen. You're a smart kid. You're a good kid. I know you're just going with your feelings, but it can lead to other things.
Jesse : Like what?
Glen : Well... Well, sex.
Jesse : [surprised] Can lead to sex? Yeah right, huh. Can lead to sex.
Glen : Yeah.
Jesse : Are you okay.
Glen : I'm fine. Why?
Jesse : Cause I have no idea what you're talking about.
Glen : I'm talking about you kissing Nadine.
Jesse : I didn't kiss Nadine.
Glen : You didn't
Jesse : No, I didn't kiss her. Who said that?
Glen : I'll give you two guesses.
-
Jesse : What's going on you guys?
Annie : Well, um, Dwight has just told us that they found you're mom in New York City and um... I'm afraid she's passed away.
[the unexpected news stuns Jesse with shock and confusion]
Jesse : [to Dwight] She died?
Dwight : I'm really sorry.
Jesse : [upset] I should have tried to find her.
Dwight : Well, she didn't want to be found, son.
Glen : There's nothing you could've done.
Dwight : Your mom still needs your help Jesse because she left somebody behind. You have a brother.
Jesse : What?
Dwight : He's a half-brother actually. He's eight years old.
Annie : [places her hand on Jesse] Jess...
Jesse : [shrugs off Annie] Don't touch me. Just-Just leave me alone. I don't want a brother you guys. I want my mom.
-
Glen : [to Jesse] That's the best friend you've ever had, kid.
-
Jesse : Glen, Annie!
[Jesse kicks the bed]
Annie : [waking up] Oh, god.
Jesse : Wake up! It's seven in the morning. Let's go out on the boat with Randolph.
Glen : [throws the pillow at Jesse] You wanna keep your voice down. You're gonna wake up a grizzly bear.
Annie : Don't you usually wake up after noon?
Jesse : Randolph leaves at dawn. It's dawn. Let's go.
-
Elvis : Wake up. Wake up. C'mon, guys. Wake up. C'mon. C'mon, guys.
[the Greenwoods wake up]
Annie : [awake] What. What. What. What. What.
Elvis : There's been a horrible accident. Some kind of oil spill. Trapped the whales. Willy's sister's beached and she's sick real bad. Gotta do something. Call the army or-or the National Guard or something. Call Randolph. I think the ship crashed or something. It's a major disaster.
Glen : Go back to sleep.
Elvis : I'm telling the truth.
Glen : [falls back to sleep] That's a first.
-
Glen : There's three positions on a throttle. Straight up and down is neutral.
Jesse : That one.
Glen : Straight up and down. Neutral.
[Jesse pulls back]
Glen : All the way back is reversal.
[Jesse pulls forward]
Glen : All the way forward.
Jesse : [pulls back] No. This way?
Glen : Forward.
Jesse : [pulls forward] No. This way?
Glen : Yeah, very funny.
Jesse : [ignores Glen by grabbing the binoculars] Mhmm.
Glen : Once you're in gear, you gotta get going. You're just gonna grind metal on metal.
Jesse : [looks around the neighborhood until he sees three girls strolling by] Hmmm... Uh-huh.
Glen : You following what I'm saying?
Jesse : [looking] Yeah. I sure do.
Glen : You're not paying attention.
Jesse : [still looking at the three girls] Watch out.
Glen : What are you looking at?
Jesse : [takes off the binoculars] Nothing.
[Glen gets distracted by the direction Jesse's presumably looking at]
Jesse : [puts binoculars down] See you later.
-
Jesse : Glen, I saw Willy. I saw him just for a second, really far away.
Glen : So Randolph thought you might.
Jesse : It was so cool, you know. To see him with his family.
Glen : It must be great for him.
Jesse : Yeah. Must be. Do you think he misses me?
Glen : Oh, yeah. I know he does. Besides, you got your own family. Just like Willy. Don't forget. All right?
Jesse : Yeah. I know.
