Quotes

  • Elvis : Hi, my name's Elvis. I'm half Apache.

Randolph : Pleased to meet you, Elvis. Apache? They're the sworn enemy of my people.

    [Randolph glares at Elvis]

Elvis : Did I say Apache?

    [Randolph nods]

Elvis : Oh, I meant, I meant, I meant Cherokee.

    Randolph : That's even worse.

[a brief pause occurs until Randolph bursts into laughter as Elvis looks in shock that he was joking with him]

    Randolph : [to Jesse]  C'mon, Let's go.

Jesse : Where are we going?

    Randolph : Orca spotting.

  • Elvis : Traitor

    Jesse : What?

Elvis : Girls are the enemy!

Jesse : No, you are the enemy! Hey Randolph, when we are leaving?

Randolph : I got a problem with the bilge pump. It'll take me a couple hours. I'm sorry.

  • Jesse : [arrives at the cannery, stomps the ground a couple times before tossing a stick at the seagulls]  Get out of here.

[Jesse then sits on a stool in sadness and anger for a few seconds until Glen shows up]

Jesse : How could she ditch me and then have another kid?

Glen : I don't know, Jess. I can't answer that one for you.

Jesse : I really thought if I was good and I believed enough, she'd come back for me.

Glen : She's not coming back, Jesse.

    Jesse : I know. I know.

[Jesse's gets up to wipe the tears off his eyes]

Jesse : It's the cold air. It gets in my eyes.

Glen : Forget about that. It's okay. Listen, your little brother's gonna come live with us for a couple weeks. Dwight and Annie got it worked out already. It's called, uh, "kingship care".

    Jesse : Uh, man.

Glen : You're his only living relative, so he's gonna stay with us for a couple of weeks till Dwight finds a more permanent place for him to be.

Jesse : Yeah, or until Annie falls in love with him, never lets me leave.

    Glen : [laughs]  Exactly.

    Jesse : This sucks.

Glen : Yeah, it kind of does, I guess. But, it'll be alright. You'll see.

    [Glen gives Jesse his harmonica]

    Glen : You dropped something.

  • Randolph : [waving to people]  Rick. Nadine.

    Nadine : Hi, Randolph.

Jesse : I hope she's the second surprise.

    Randolph : I'll ignore that.

Jesse : Aren't you gonna introduce me?

Randolph : Nope. I'll teach you how to steer.

[Nadine briefly looks at Jesse before continuing to untie the rope]

Jesse : [peeps out from the side of the boat]  Well, who is she?

Randolph : [drags Jesse]  She's my orca spotter. Cast off that line, Nadine, we'll be on our way.

  • Milner's Assistant : Hey, come on, kid. We're just trying to save the whales, okay?

Jesse : You're not gonna get away with this.

    Milner's Assistant : No way.

  • Jesse : Do you come with a remote?

Elvis : None that I know of.

  • Elvis : What are you staring at?

Jesse : What are you staring at?

    Elvis : Bunch of water.

Jesse : Yeah. Shows what you know.

Elvis : Is there at least an amusement park on this island?

Jesse : No. There's a whale spotting station.

Elvis : You mean where they paint spots on the whales?

    Jesse : Yeah.

  • Jesse : They're trapped in the cove. They can't get back to their family.

Kate Haley : It's for their own good.

Jesse : No it's not. Don't you get it? Don't you understand? None of this is for their own good. Not hurting them in the first place would have been for their own good. Not ruining their home in the first place would've been for their own good. It's all just a bunch of bull.

    [Jesse storms off]

  • [Jesse finds Elvis looking at his whale pendant]

Jesse : Who said you could touch that?

Elvis : The President of the United States. He announced it on TV.

    [Jesse enters the tent]

Jesse : [reaches his arm out]  Here.

[Elvis returns the pendant to Jesse]

Jesse : [puts the pendant back on]  Pretty cool, huh?

Elvis : Yeah. What's it mean?

Jesse : There was a young Haida Indian name Natselane. He lived many years before there were whales. One day, Natselane got lost and he couldn't find his way home. He carved the first whale ever out of a log, Nastelane got on the back of the whale and rode him all the way home.

Elvis : He rode him all the way home?

    Jesse : Yeah.

Elvis : Wow. That's a cool story, Jesse.

Jesse : Randolph told it to me.

  • Jesse : [to Willy]  See that boom? We're gonna get you out of here. It's gonna be okay, I promise. Remember the old days? Remember this?

[Jesse swipes his arm. Willy chatters in response]

Jesse : [taps Willy's head]  Yeah, you remember.

Nadine : What does that signal mean?

Jesse : [gives Willy the signal]  Give em a show, boy. Give em a show. See that boom? You gotta break it.

  • Annie : So how did you get the name Elvis, Elvis?

    Elvis : My mom.

Glen : Gee, that's funny. That's how I got mine too.

Elvis : Whatever. I'm going to be a big movie star. Just like my dad.

    Jesse : Yeah, right.

Elvis : My dad, you know, Al Pacino. My friends call me the Godfather.

Jesse : Give me a break.

  • Jesse : You want me to drive?

Randolph : You know how to drive?

    Jesse : No, do you?

Randolph : Very funny. Here, I got a couple of surprises for you. For you from my village.

[Randolph gives Jesse a small bag]

Jesse : [opens his bag]  Wow.

[Jesse was gifted a carved pendant that has Natselane on top of the orca]

Randolph : My people believe your soul lives here.

    [Randolph points at Jesse's chest]

Randolph : When you wear that necklace, the orca is close to your spirit.

Jesse : Thanks. This is so cool.

  • Jesse : [racing to the Litter Dipper]  Come on. Let's go. Come on.

Nadine : What are we doing?

Jesse : [tosses the rope]  Just untie the back line. Hurry. Let's go.

Nadine : Back line. Back line. Okay.

[Nadine tosses the backline and gets into the Little Dipper]

    Nadine : Uh, alright okay.

    [Jesse stars Little Dipper]

Nadine : Do you know how to drive this thing?

    Jesse : Define "drive".

    Nadine : Uh...

  • [last lines]

Elvis : Where are the fish? Where's Littlespot?

Jesse : Littlespot, Luna and Willy are back with their mom.

Elvis : How do you know?

Jesse : [clutching his pendant]  I know.

[Closeup shot of Jesse's hand in the pendant as the camera moves up to his eyes as the scene slowly fades to the morning after]

Jesse : Salanaa Eiyung Ayesis. Salanaa Eiyung Ayesis. Salanaa Eiyung Ayesis.

  • Elvis : You're the best brother I ever had.

Jesse : I'm the only brother you ever had.

    Elvis : I'm scared.

Jesse : It's alright. It's like bungee jumping.

    [Jesse finishes securing Elvis]

Jesse : [to the copter]  Go.

    [the copter starts lifting Elvis]

Elvis : But I never went bungee jumping. I lied

    Jesse : Hang on.

  • Glen : Listen, I was a lot like you when I was your age. When Annie's kinda worried about this, she wants me to talk to you and she thinks that kind of behavior is dangerous.

Jesse : Nadine thought so too. But it's practically safe. I know exactly what I'm doing.

Glen : I use to think the same thing.

    Jesse : Huh?

    Glen : Oh, yeah.

Jesse : Well, I'm practically an expert.

Glen : Yeah, well, listen. You're a smart kid. You're a good kid. I know you're just going with your feelings, but it can lead to other things.

    Jesse : Like what?

    Glen : Well... Well, sex.

Jesse : [surprised]  Can lead to sex? Yeah right, huh. Can lead to sex.

    Glen : Yeah.

    Jesse : Are you okay.

    Glen : I'm fine. Why?

Jesse : Cause I have no idea what you're talking about.

Glen : I'm talking about you kissing Nadine.

    Jesse : I didn't kiss Nadine.

    Glen : You didn't

Jesse : No, I didn't kiss her. Who said that?

Glen : I'll give you two guesses.

  • Jesse : [sees Elvis staring at him]  What are you looking at?

Elvis : What are you looking at? This is for you.

    [Elvis hands Jesse something important]

Jesse : [examines the item]  What is it?

[Jesse is surprised to receive an old photo of him and his mom that was secretly ripped by Elvis]

Jesse : What the heck? Mom?

Elvis : It had a little accident, but I taped it back together.

Jesse : [looking at the photo]  Thanks.

Elvis : [tearfully]  She talked about you all the time. She felt bad about what happened.

    Jesse : [pauses]  Thank you.

[Elvis breaksdown only to be comforted by Jesse]

    Elvis : She loved you.

  • Jesse : What's going on you guys?

Annie : Well, um, Dwight has just told us that they found you're mom in New York City and um... I'm afraid she's passed away.

[the unexpected news stuns Jesse with shock and confusion]

Jesse : [to Dwight]  She died?

    Dwight : I'm really sorry.

Jesse : [upset]  I should have tried to find her.

Dwight : Well, she didn't want to be found, son.

    Glen : There's nothing you could've done.

Dwight : Your mom still needs your help Jesse because she left somebody behind. You have a brother.

    Jesse : What?

    Dwight : He's a half-brother actually. He's eight years old.

Annie : [places her hand on Jesse]  Jess...

Jesse : [shrugs off Annie]  Don't touch me. Just-Just leave me alone. I don't want a brother you guys. I want my mom.

  • [Jesse accidentally drops his harmonica after playing a tune alone]

    Jesse : Great.

    [Jesse slaps the water]

    Jesse : Just great.

[the harmonica continues to float down. Jesse hears the sound coming from the surface. Suddenly, to his surprise, Willy appears]

    Jesse : Whoa.

    [Willy greets Jesse]

Jesse : [touches Willy]  Willy. Hey, boy. You've grown haven't you? Guess you've been eating pretty well, huh?

[Willy opens his mouth to reveal the harmonica much to Jesse's delight]

Jesse : [retrieves the harmonica]  Oh, wow. Thanks, boy. You found it. Thanks. I missed you so much.

    [Willy squeals]

Jesse : I saw you with your family. God, you must be happy to be with your mom.

[Willy blows air as in asking Jesse about his mom]

    Jesse : My mom died.

    [Willy comforts Jesse]

Jesse : I miss her so much. I feel like I've got nobody. I feel like I'm all alone. I don't know what to do.

[Jesse kisses Willy. The sound from Willy's mom is heard. Willy replies with his voice]

Jesse : That's your mom. You better go. She's calling you.

[Willy leaves and waves to Jesse]

    Jesse : Goodnight, buddy.

  • Jesse : If Randolph leaves without us, I'm gonna kill you.

Elvis : Yeah, well I have a black belt in karate.

Jesse : Yeah, well, I have laser death-rays that come out of my eyes.

    Elvis : Liar.

  • Jesse : Willy, what's you're problem? Yeah, great friend. Gotta get it.

[Jesse dives into the cove to get his hat]

Jesse : Come on in. The water's great.

Nadine : Jesse, get a grip this is a killer whale.

Jesse : Oh, come on. He's my friend.

[Willy appears from out of nowhere and offers Jesse a ride on his back]

    Jesse : Whoa, Whoa, Whoa.

    Nadine : Jesse.

Jesse : [climbing on Willy]  Yeah, Willy. Way to go boy.

  • Jesse : What's he look like?

Annie : Different. Come down and find out for yourself.

    Jesse : I don't want to.

Annie : Jesse. Why don't you just talk to him. You might learn a few things.

    Jesse : Like what?

Annie : Well, he spent the last eight years with your mother. You tell me?

    [Jesse briefly strums his guitar]

Annie : We'll see you downstairs.

    Jesse : Fine.

  • [from the trailer]

Jesse : [to Willy]  Get your brother and sister out of this cove, you find your mom, I promise I'll do anything in my power to keep your ocean safe as long as I live.

  • Elvis : [to the driver after dropping him off]  Thanks.

    [Elvis arrives back at camp]

    Elvis : Jesse.

[Jesse and Nadine turn around and see Elvis]

Jesse : Where the heck have you been?

Elvis : Saving your blubbery butt. That's where I've been. Listen, there were these two guys. They were in a donut shop...

Jesse : Wait a minute. What are you talking about?

Elvis : I'll tell you, but you have to trust me.

Jesse : [distraught]  Why should I trust you?

[Jesse sits back down as Elvis tries to explain the truth]

Elvis : Because nobody ever has.

  • Nadine : Hey, what do you think you're doing?

Jesse : Sitting in the ocean.

Nadine : You followed me here, didn't you?

    Jesse : So?

  • Jesse : Glen, Annie!

    [Jesse kicks the bed]

Annie : [waking up]  Oh, god.

Jesse : Wake up! It's seven in the morning. Let's go out on the boat with Randolph.

Glen : [throws the pillow at Jesse]  You wanna keep your voice down. You're gonna wake up a grizzly bear.

Annie : Don't you usually wake up after noon?

Jesse : Randolph leaves at dawn. It's dawn. Let's go.

  • Elvis : Jesse.

    Jesse : Yeah?

    Elvis : Good luck.

    Jesse : Thanks.

  • Nadine : [about Jesse riding Willy]  I can't believe that. That was so cool.

Jesse : Maybe you can touch him next time, huh?

Nadine : I can't believe he let you do that.

Jesse : I think he likes it.

    Nadine : I think you're right. Wow.

  • Randolph : You've done everything in our power, Jesse. All we can do now is let us sleep on it.

Jesse : Wait and see if the spirits are with us tonight?

Randolph : The spirits are always with us. I'll see you in a while.

  • [from the trailer]

Jesse : Don't give up, Catspaw. We'll get them back to you. I promise.

  • [Jesse turns the flashlight on and turns it towards Elvis. Unbeknownst to Jesse, that the light secretly woke Elvis]

Elvis : [scares Jesse]  Caught you. I never sleep.

Jesse : [puts the flashlight away]  Goodnight.

  • Jesse : You don't have a bad back do you?

Elvis : I do so. I have spasms which I got from bungee jumping in the Alps.

    Jesse : Yeah, right.

[Jesse uses his finger to draw a line between him and Elvis]

Jesse : You see this line?

    Elvis : No?

Jesse : Well, you cross it...

    [Jesse moves Elvis' leg]

    Jesse : You're dead.

  • Kate Haley : [realizes Milner's plan]  Jesse, Jesse, I believe you. I don't know what we can do.

    Jesse : I do.

Kate Haley : Go for it.

  • [Jesse looks at Annie and then Randolph for approval on a risky proposal to Milner]

Jesse : I'll make a deal with you.

    John Milner : I'm listening.

Jesse : I'll convince Willy to let us help Luna.

    John Milner : Great.

Jesse : But, you have to promise to get Willy, Luna and Littlespot back to their mom.

    John Milner : I can't promise that.

Jesse : It's your oil that killing Luna. And if she dies, everybody's gonna see it on the six o'clock news. Everyone's gonna blame you.

John Milner : What do you want me to say?

John Milner : Just promise me you'll try.

John Milner : Well, that I can do.

  • Jesse : Elvis? Elvis, wake up.

    Elvis : What?

Jesse : I have to ask you something.

    Elvis : Okay.

Jesse : Did mom ever talk about me before you were born when she lived out here?

    Elvis : No.

Jesse : Did she ever talk about my dad?

    Elvis : No.

Jesse : Did she ever talk about me?

    Elvis : No.

Jesse : [lays back down in dissapointment]  Oh.

    Elvis : She had problems.

    Jesse : Like what?

Elvis : [sobbing]  She lied a lot. Said she loved me. Said she would never leave.

  • Glen : There's three positions on a throttle. Straight up and down is neutral.

    Jesse : That one.

Glen : Straight up and down. Neutral.

    [Jesse pulls back]

Glen : All the way back is reversal.

    [Jesse pulls forward]

Glen : All the way forward.

Jesse : [pulls back]  No. This way?

    Glen : Forward.

Jesse : [pulls forward]  No. This way?

    Glen : Yeah, very funny.

Jesse : [ignores Glen by grabbing the binoculars]  Mhmm.

Glen : Once you're in gear, you gotta get going. You're just gonna grind metal on metal.

Jesse : [looks around the neighborhood until he sees three girls strolling by]  Hmmm... Uh-huh.

Glen : You following what I'm saying?

Jesse : [looking]  Yeah. I sure do.

Glen : You're not paying attention.

Jesse : [still looking at the three girls]  Watch out.

Glen : What are you looking at?

Jesse : [takes off the binoculars]  Nothing.

[Glen gets distracted by the direction Jesse's presumably looking at]

Jesse : [puts binoculars down]  See you later.

  • Jesse : Willy doesn't like doctors.

    [Kate gets in the boat]

Kate Haley : [to the crew]  Okay, let's see if we can do it.

Randolph : She's one of the good ones, Jesse.

Jesse : But he doesn't know that.

  • Randolph : Look at you.

[Jesse and Randolph shake hands and hug each other]

Randolph : You must have grown at least six inches.

Jesse : Four and a half.

Glen : [stands in front of Jesse]  Since breakfast.

  • Jesse : Glen, I saw Willy. I saw him just for a second, really far away.

Glen : So Randolph thought you might.

Jesse : It was so cool, you know. To see him with his family.

Glen : It must be great for him.

Jesse : Yeah. Must be. Do you think he misses me?

Glen : Oh, yeah. I know he does. Besides, you got your own family. Just like Willy. Don't forget. All right?

    Jesse : Yeah. I know.

  • Jesse : Elvis, just go back to camp. Tell Glen and Annie, uh, I went out on the boat with Randolph. But you couldn't go cause you'll get seasick.

Elvis : But that will be a lie.

Jesse : I'm really sure you can handle it.

Elvis : Well, what are you gonna do?

Jesse : None of your business.
