- Both Jesse and his younger brother grieve for their mother at different times and the younger brother struggles with his new foster family. Some of the scenes are emotionally intense.
- Jesse finds out that his mother died at the beginning of the film (depressing considering how much he wanted to see her again in the first film)

- At the end of the movie a massive oil spill catches on fire. This threatens three orcas and traps 3 kids (easily the most intense scene out of the 3 films). They do get saved at the last minute however.
- During the climax the three kids are rescued by a helicopter, two of them make it to safety, one falls from the harness and is left behind, he is saved moments later.
