Sex & Nudity

  • When talking on the phone, Matilda's mom briefly mentions "implants".
  • When Matilda's father comes home and finds his wife entertaining two men, he says that he should find dinner on the table without having to "wade through a convention of male strippers".
  • The part of the scene in Miss Honey's classroom about spelling and poetry when questioned by Miss Trunchbull and using the word "Mrs." and spelling the letters to the word "Difficulty" where the Trunchbull asks the girls "Why are all these women married?!" implies lesbianism. This particular part of the scene was cut from many TV airings.
  • When Matilda's mother is on the phone to her friend, she mentions that she should try waxing down there. Implying waxing pubic hair.

Violence & Gore

  • A woman grabs another woman by the arm and threatens to break her arm like she says she did once before.
  • A woman visibly kicks a cat. It can be seen flying in the air before running away.
  • Miss Trunchbull threatens to burn down Wormwood Motors while threatening the owner with a lawsuit over the phone.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood are shown drinking beer.
  • A boy offers a teacher visiting in the house a can of beer, but she rejects.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A boy is held upside down by Miss Trunchbull. He is then dropped on the floor.
  • Miss Trunchbull is portrayed as a cruel, heartless, and strict principal.
  • Matilda uses her powers to "haunt" Miss Trunchbull's house, which can be a bit unnerving even though the audience knows Matilda is behind it
  • Matilda's parents regularly mistreat her. Her father and brother bully her and treat her as a lesser person. Although at times this is done for comic relief, it may still be distressing for some viewers.
  • Mild actually.
  • Miss Trunchbull smashes a glass tray that held a large cake onto a boy's head in front of the students in the assembly, which he belches afterwards. By the end of this scene, it is implied she locked the boy into the Chokey.
  • Miss Trunchbull confronts, terrorizes, and bullies the students.
  • Miss Trunchbull locks children in "The Chokey", which resembles a coffin and is tall enough to stand in. Nails are sticking in the door of it and steam pours out of it when it is opened. No one is depicted as being actually injured from being in it.
  • When Miss Trunchbull discovers Matilda and Miss Honey are in her house she goes on a violent rampage using a ball and chain trying to find them. A highly intense scene with suspenseful, threatening music throughout.
