Sex & Nudity

  • In the plot, a woman disguised as a man tries to woo a lady for her lord. The lady falls in love with the disguised woman thinking she is a man, but this is meant to be comical and nothing indecent happens.
  • A man spends an entire scene monologuing around a statue of a nude goddess. This is humorous and a bit bizarre, but nothing even remotely unwholesome about it.
  • A woman disguised as a man is asked to help bathe a man, and she reluctantly agrees. This is humorous and awkward, but it is not sexual.

Violence & Gore

  • The opening scene depicts a violent storm, causing a ship to wreck. People have to abandon ship and some people get hurled into the sea, but no one is shown dying or being seriously hurt.
  • No real violent material, except very mild slapstick violence

Profanity

  • None whatsoever. All the dialogue is taken verbatim from Shakespeare's play.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Two of the main characters are notorious drunkards. They are frequently seen drinking to excess and coming home extremely drunk. However, this behavior is not condoned.
  • A key scene features two central characters smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The MPAA rated the film PG for "mild thematic elements." It is confusing as to what is meant by this, since the only "thematic elements" are what Shakespeare himself wrote. The film should be G. Either way, it is perfectly wholesome and suitable for classrooms and family viewing.
