ISLE OF LESBOS is a campy indie comedy musical that tries very hard to be the next ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW but doesn't really succeed. The non-story, unfunny jokes, and lack of decent musical numbers mean that this is a production that quickly outstays its welcome, a mere amateur night film heavily indebted to Richard O'Brien's aforementioned classic as well as the works of John Waters.

The Isle of Lesbos has no Byzantine plot line. The special effects are rather weak even for 1997 standards. There are barely any vicious fight scenes. The depiction of the human psyche is sub-par when compared to the movies of Ingmar Bergman.
What you get instead is one and a half hours of surreal and hysterical musical entertainment. The songs are great with catchy tunes and well-written lyrics. Be prepared to deal with the urge of singing "I'm a la-la-la-la-lesbian" in the supermarket - even if you're a man. The dialogs between the songs are somewhat forced and amateurish. Probably intended so, but who cares. The characters are nicely exaggerated, although some of them to a level that makes them look a bit boring. Wholehearted rednecks won't like the movie.

I gave it 8 stars out of 10 because its second half just cannot maintain the awesome level set in the first part. Definitely worth watching. Definitely worth watching a second or third time, too.

in my view, this is the funniest movie ever made, that's why i gave it a ten. i remember i was waiting for my favorite mtv2 show, 120 minutes to start and i was surfing channels and i came across an "18" rated picture. i also have the habit of watching pornographic films for amusement so i stopped surfing and waited for what i thought would be the "action" of the film to start. 15 minutes later i had spit on my shirt and i was rolling over on the floor laughing and dancing, never had i seen something that was so funny. i actually missed my mtv2 show because of this movie as well, it was simply too good to change channels.
i found out later that this movie is pretty difficult to obtain(i've been trying to get it for my friends for over 6 months now). IF YOU DO HAVE THIS MOVIE OR HAVE ANY POSSIBILITY OF WATCHING IT, IT's A MUST. make sure you go to the toilet before doing that though
