The future of Paramount may be decided in the coming days. In addition to a bid from Skydance, the Wall Street Journal reports Sony and Apollo Global Management have teamed up to offer $26 billion in cash for the entertainment company. Ultimately, the decision will be made by Shari Redstone, who owns most of the voting shares of Paramount.

While it’s hard to guess where Paramount would pivot under Skydance, a Sony/Apollo ownership offers more clues. Sony doesn’t own any TV stations, but it does create a lot of television shows that air on multiple networks. Its shows include “Shark Tank,” “The Wheel of Time,” “The Boys,” “Jeopardy!” “Wheel of Fortune,” and “Twisted Metal.”
The big question is whether Sony holds on to Paramount’s CBS or chooses to sell it to another media company. Linear networks are in decline, but...

Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s Team America: World Police is debuting on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format: more here.
For their cinematic follow up to South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, writers and directors Trey Parker and Matt Stone decided it’d be a good idea to make a film with puppets. As we covered in a Film Stories podcast episode before, they would soon appreciate just how difficult it was to do.
The film that resulted from their labours was Team America: World Police, a brutally funny comedy action satire, with some memorable songs in the midst of it too. Originally released in 2004, to now mark the 20th birthday of the film, it’s got a 4K makeover, and is coming to the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format for the first time.
We’ve got Paramount to thank for this, who is issuing the film on 24th June 2024 on the format.

Jerry Seinfeld has been a recognized comedy star since the early ‘90s, but he has some concerns about modern audiences no longer being interested in watching comedies on their televisions just like what they used to do back in the day.

Not only did he blame the advancement of technologies, but he also pointed out how people often police comedy lines and jokes thrown on-air. This simply means that everything they say on screen can either make or break their career due to the rise of cancel culture.

In the age of streaming platforms, the balance of power in television has changed. Studio bosses started spending many times more money on TV series, cutting the number of episodes so that viewers could binge on the entire season, and investing no less, if not more, in advertising and PR than they would for a major motion picture.
Competition has increased, with popular shows replacing each other every month, sometimes even every week.
20 years ago everything was different – the competition was not so fierce, but it was also more difficult to attract an audience. Channel management had to keep viewers glued to their screens for 20-30 episodes to keep ratings from dropping. Some projects failed and were quickly canceled, while others stayed on for nine full seasons, like 24.

Eric Cartman’s shocking moments in South Park are some of the most outrageous depictions on television. The character created by South Park creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, is easily the most controversial and favorite character of the adult animated sitcom. He carried the show from the get-go with an obscene narrative in the premiere episode, “Cartman Get an Anal Probe.” From farting fire and ejecting an alien machine through his rectum in the first episode, Eric Theodore Cartman has personified everything wrong and inappropriate since the show’s debut in August 1997. The character has evolved beyond hating Jews, Gingers,

No, that's not the start of a joke. It's just three out of the five characters already played by Devon Sawa on Chucky.
Anyone even slightly familiar with the franchise is already aware of Chucky's constant and imminent return with each installment.
However, the almost meta resurrection of Devon Sawa with each season was an unexpected surprise.
If you've been along for the insane killer doll ride for all three seasons, then you know by now that no adult character, whether main, recurring, or extra, is ever safe in the Chucky universe.
And much like Kenny McCormick from South Park, no adult character is more expected to die than those played by Sawa.
The show stands out with its over-the-top and campy kills in a franchise that centers around a possessed doll with a lust for bloody macabre.

Paramount Global is planning a suite of streaming channel for South Park fans to launch on the ad-based service Pluto TV in international markets.
The series, from creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, has aired 26 seasons on Comedy Central and spawned a 1999 theatrical feature, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. Now Pluto TV is doubling down on the South Park brand by creating a dedicated main channel across all international markets where the AVOD streaming platform is active.
Studio execs note the expansion of the South Park Universe on Pluto TV outside of the U.S. does not represent new content, as it will instead make the existing animated series more widely available on the ad-based streaming platform.
The studio also plans a series of monthly South Park-themed channels across Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Canada, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Latin America and Australia. As the South Park series expands on Pluto TV,...

It’s not a secret that Star Wars fandom is facing sort of a social crisis. In recent times, much of the focus of the franchise has been put on female leads and representation within live-action projects. Some fans consider it to be a good thing, while some are criticizing that direction.
The reasons behind the criticism are numerous, some fans are genuinely misogynistic, but a vast majority feel that the female and minority representation feels forced and therefore falls flat and bland, being there just for the sake of being there, which makes the overall products all that worse.
For many the face of that new woke direction is Kathleen Kennedy, a film producer and the current president of Lucasfilm. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy took plenty of backlash from much of the Star Wars fanbase due to her advocating for diversity, but she may not be the "woke warrior" some believe her to be at Disney.
After Daisy Ridley was cast as the lead in Star Wars' sequel trilogy and other female actresses like Rosario Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo played prominent roles on Disney+, some fans claimed that Kennedy was pushing a political agenda. This later led to the Lucasfilm boss being described by that sect as "woke."
The popular adult animated series South Park even released a special that featured Kennedy in a satirical manner as the face of the "woke community" at Disney, claiming that she only makes decisions to "pander to everyone."

“AI” is a swear word in Hollywood, one only muttered at CinemaCon 2024 after a certain number of daiquiris. In Booth #2618A on the trade show floor, it was a pitch.
In our search of the hundreds of participating CinemaCon 2024 vendors, Indy Cinema Group — born in the UK and optimized outside Yosemite — was the lone company bold enough to plant its AI flag in Las Vegas this week.
The Indy app, developed by aerospace-engineer-turned-theater-owner Keith Walker, is out to replace the five or six computer systems a movie theater already uses. The film has drawn rave reviews thus far, but when will viewers be able to watch it with a Max subscription?
A24’s latest movie will likely force everyone who sees it to take a moment for self-reflection. “Civil War” is the studio’s latest release, an action movie that will compel some Americans to step back and evaluate the state of the nation when it officially debuts in theaters on Friday, April 12.
“Civil War” has racked up an 83% rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The film will stream on Max, as Warner Bros. Discovery has an exclusive Pay 1 deal with A24. A24 films usually spend quite a long time in theaters, and Wbd has made no secret of its preference for a long theatrical window. Sign Up $9.99+ / month Max.com

A lively CinemaCon presentation closed out with spectacular first footage from Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II as studio top brass mostly put speculation of mergers and acquisitions behind them to focus on a rich upcoming slate.

After stepping down from royal duties a few years back and moving to America, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had quite a few moments they’d like to forget. The duke and duchess were mocked by late-night comedians and on TV shows like South Park and The Family Guy. The couple also gained a reputation for not putting in work and were dropped by Spotify before one of the company’s executives called them “f******* grifters.” The Sussexes then rounded out 2023 by landing on The Hollywood Reporter’s “Biggest Losers” list.
The prince and former Suits star vowed that 2024 would be their “redemption year.” They’ve since ramped up speaking engagements and appearances to discuss important causes and Meghan is launching her very own lifestyle brand. And that, according to an expert, is a clear sign that she feels ready to split from Prince Harry.

There’s much to unpack from the South Park episode that revealed the true identity of Eric Cartman’s dad. These range from the Super Best Friends to the celebrities seeking to have people stop making fun of them — and, of course, their monster Mecha-Streisand. However, unraveling the secret about Cartman’s father is the most exciting subplot of the episode often ranked among the most controversial and memorable episodes of the adult animated television series. Good Times is back in a new way.
The animated Netflix reboot of the ’70s sitcom, which featured TV’s first Black two-parent family, promises to “drop the laugh track and deal with modern-day issues, retaining the feeling of the original Good Times,” per the network.
“It’s about a Black family that comes together, laughs together, and survives the system on the South Side of Chicago. What you’ll get from that is a lot of social commentary, a lot of pushing the boundaries, a lot of feel-good television, but also a lot of things that may be in the vein of The Simpsons and South Park and Family Guy. When you’re looking back 10 years later, you’ll be like, ‘They said that on Good Times?’ Oh my gosh,’” says showrunner Ranada Shepard.
The animated series premieres Friday (April 12), and features a lot of big names in the voice cast.

South Park’s Eric Cartman is the poster child for everything wrong with the world. He’s a racist, sexist, Kyle-hating, mass-murdering, sociopathic maniac who’ll do just about anything to make his life a tad bit more fun. He’s got a voice like nails on a chalkboard, has absolutely no moral compass, and is very much the antichrist to those worried about political correctness in media. And yet, Eric Cartman is undoubtedly the greatest thing about South Park. Cartman is exactly the type of character you’re supposed to hate, especially in this day and age. So, how can someone so utterly despicable

As the golden era of "The Simpsons" started to die down in the late '90s, a bunch of other adult animated sitcoms rose to prominence, all vying for the cultural power Matt Groening's series once had. South Park: Snow Day follows on from The Stick of Truth and The Fractured but Whole, although that is not immediately obvious at first glance. This is because a pretty drastic design change has been implemented this time around, taking things from the 2D realm into 3D. It also places a multiplayer co-op mentality first and foremost across all of the game’s core mechanics, which again seems like a strange departure.
Fortunately, despite these arguably unwelcome changes, there is still fun to be had here. The question is; are there enough of these fun moments to smooth over the drastic departures from past games for fans to get on board?
South Park: Snow Day releases on March 26th for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
When it was announced that the next South Park game would employ a 3D visual aesthetic, it had me scratching my head.

Much of the long-term success of the South Park series rests on the shoulders of its often crude humor and biting satire. That’s something that spilled over into the last two mainline South Park games, The Stick of Truth and The Fractured But Whole. While they looked on the surface like South Park-skinned RPGs, both offered innovative gameplay alongside the satiric bite we’ve come to expect from South Park. Not so with South Park: Snow Day!, a repetitive 3D co-op beat ‘em up that brings nothing new to the genre.
It doesn’t help that Snow Day! seems aimed exclusively at franchise fans. Whereas The Stick of Truth re-introduced and built upon many of the fantasy alter-egos of the main cast introduced in episodes of South Park that parodied The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, Snow Day is mostly content to rehash familiar jokes tied to,...
