Humorous battle axe
milton-freddy26 December 2013
In 1938, you could still get away with presenting a plot of a town council paying a bachelor to marry a battle axe to get her out of town. Emanuel Gregers had a lucky hand in transferring this theater play to film making it a highlight of comedies from this decade, primarily because of the talents of Bodil Ipsen, who was the proper actor to portray this broad comedy female and still keep up the credibility and strength of the character. Apart from a similar performance in 'Sørensen og Rasmussen' this is her finest hour in the comedy genre, but she could also meet the requirements of serious parts as well as direct films. And on top of that she can sing, too! Peter Malberg is a qualified partner for a woman like her, being an epitaph of original comedy actors of his generation. The rural setting is presented very convincingly and the songs work just fine. All in all a masterpiece in the comedy genre.
