Great production values, not so much arousal.

I think my review's title perfectly summarizes my feelings toward this movie. I am a true fan of the "Golden era of porn" and this is undoubtedly one of the most "polished" efforts released during that era thanks to locations, music and the fact that there's some plot and acting. While I've always considered John Holmes a terrible actor (contrary to John Leslie), this and "Hot & Saucy Pizza Girls" are his best attempts.

Unfortunately, the sex scenes didn't do so much for me aside from Leslie Bovee's evident oral expertise displayed in the end of the scene at the cane field.

If you want to see a movie with similar production values AND some really arousing sex scenes, check 1978's "The Other Side Of Julie". Now that's what I call an overall high-quality production (for porn standards, of course).

Porn's answer to "Double Indemnity"

John Holmes plays an insurance salesman who sells Leslie Bovee a high-sum insurance policy against her husband. She wants him killed and John Holmes is getting deeper and deeper in trouble. Movie is filmed in Hawaii and that was this movies big selling point. Many scenes of mid 1970s Honolulu and Oahu are shown. John and Leslie have sex in the back of a convertible in a cane field, they have sex at the water's edge on a beach ( with a paranoid John Holmes almost constantly looking over his shoulder so as to not be caught filming here.)

Fun movie, great scenery, a lot of outdoor sex for a change in an adult film. Recommended if you enjoy the natural pre-video female porn queen type bodies.

John's Best Performance!
justrich28 August 2008
Filmed entirely on location in Hawaii, Eruption is a one of a kind film! Not only does John do four sex scenes, but he also does all the stunts in the film. The sex scenes are with Leslie Bovee and Susan Hart, and this movie has an excellent story. John proves here that he was indeed an actor, and not just a fourteen inch schlong. This is a great movie for couples inasmuch as there is a plot that thickens throughout the film. Because this film has deteriorated so badly, I recommend viewing it on a used VHS rather than a newly produced DVD. You will want to see the brilliant colors...especially when the camera gets you about a quarter inch from Leslie Bovee's open puss!

What are you doing, little girl!

When you are grading a porno movie, you are of course, grading on a curve. You can't expect great acting or plot. To me the question is, does it hold your interest even when there is no sex going on. Eruption passed this test for me. I actually found John Holmes quite believable as an insurance salesman - he had a sort of swagger that you would need to sell ice to Eskimos. I also can believe that he'd kill someone for love and money though he didn't do a good job of acting like he was in love. Lust, perhaps. The scene where he is banging the leading lady on the beach is quite good - though with his long member it's like he's a foot away from her. For me my favorite scene has to be the one in the hot tub when Wynne Colburn gets pulled into the water in a quite direct way. I always loved his "What are you doing, little girl?" line.
