A Childhood Favorite
vegeta1361314 May 2008
I am 25, and live very near Canada. I remember watching this show via a Canadian station probably twelve or thirteen years ago. I loved it. It was right up there with Ducktales, Gargoyles, Aladdin, Dinosaurs, Gummi Bears and Ren and Stimpy (when Ren and Stimpy first aired, I was too young to understand most of the adult humor it had, so my father and I both enjoyed the series, but for different reasons). These were true classics, unlike most of today's cartoons (although I must admit, I enjoy most episodes of Spongebob Squarepants). Hopefully I will soon be having a child of my own, and be able to introduce them into a world of television that includes I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, Ducktales, The Raccoons, Ren and Stimpy, You Can't Do That on Television and Spongebob Squarepants.

A Slice of Powerful Nosteliga

I liked this series when I was around 10 years old. It was good but I wasn't my favourite. I had to admit the show certainly had it moment but it couldn't outdo other shows currently showing during that period! But it certainly does bring some fond memories. It had to remember what the story was about but I was about forest creatures, I presume. The animation wasn't state of art but the voices were well done. I thought that "Run with Us" end credits song was slightly unnecessary which dragged the production down but other than that, it was good. Wouldn't be that fuss to bring it back to terrestrial television though because I prefer some other shows to this. 6/10

One of the best cartoon shows ever
pennylane11422 October 2001
The Raccoons and The Muppet Babies are the two best cartoon shows of the '80s, and there were a lot of great cartoons back then! I love this show because it's not some 30-minute toy commercial; it's a quality cartoon with great characters, great songs, and great plots. Like any fan of this show, I love Bert. He's just so courageous and his antics always give me a laugh. Cyril Sneer may come off selfish and mean, but he's really a very nice guy, especially with his son Cedric. And the songs in this show are some of the best songs ever made for a cartoon; they always fit in nicely with the plot and had that classic new wave sound to it (something that The Muppet Babies also have).

So, if you can find it, give this show a good watch. You'll love it!

A Part Of Canadian Heritage

First of all, I must say that I love this show. I have since I was 3, and I always will. Being born in 1992, I got to see the best of late 1980s television, and this just happened to be one of those shows. My mother says that I rarely watched The Raccoons, but I can very well recall seeing many episodes. "The Evergreen Grandprix" and "Blast From The Past" come to mind.

Another thing I really like about the show is the fact that they made their own music and songs. 98% of all episodes featured a very well done musical number. The theme song is very good as well, having an original sound.

The Raccoons was the first TV series produced entirely with in Canada, and managed a successful six year run from 1985 to 1991. All Canadians should be proud! I sure am!

The last time I managed to see The Raccoons on national television would have been in July, 2002, around 7:30am or so on APTN. Since then, I haven't seen it anywhere since then. I now own both DVD box sets, and they were both worthy investments. Recommended!

Nobody's chasing these raccoons out the back door with a broom.

Cause this show is awesome.

Bert Raccoon lives in evergreen forest, a peaceful, beautiful place full of life. but when he awakes, things change...bigtime. he has a lot of friends, which is good, because without them, he could never deal with Cyril sneer, the Miserable, ugly-looking arsehole whose only want is to make big bucks, even if it means destroying the evergreen forest.

This show goes on the list of Canada's Greatest creations. Also on this list is Trailer park boys, Mr. Dressup, Hockey night in Canada and The Red green show. but i like to think of the raccoons as near the top, because i never actually watched this show in the 80s, because i was never Around in the 80s. i remember watching it through the 90s and loving it.

But there's one ultimate thing that makes The raccoons so enjoyable...Lisa Lougheed. That girl is hot, sings like an angel, dances better than Paula Abdul, and needs to make waves in the entertainment world today.

Bottom line, you need to tune into the raccoons any chance you get.

Nice Music,Nice plots.

This show should be noted for his songs. His theme song is the best I have ever heard and each episode had clasical '80s songs. The plot's may be a little silly but they oftenly have good points that work in real life too.My favorite star of this show is Cyril Sneer. In one episode we find out he left his home when he was young and has spend most of his life trying to build his fortune. He's grown to be a harsh, stingy man but still has a soft time.He even seems to be a humanitarian sometimes, when he isn't running a money making plan.He is intelligent and a quite complicated person. This show learned to me that there are no villains and heroes, just persons with different shapes of grey.Recomended.

Brings back childhood memories
MikeK-74 January 2003
This is a lovely television series that I remember from when I was only 5 or 6 years old, it was showing on The Disney Channel in the late 80's when it was still a pay cable channel and before Disney started airing politically correct crap like they do now days. I was unaware this was a French production, but the cartoons were great. Exceptional animation and interesting characters made this a stand-out. It hasn't been shown in over a decade but hopeful someone with common sense will revive it and bring it back to television. If you see it (which likely you won't), make sure you catch it.

One of the coolest cartoons ever
marksmith165 August 2005
'The Raccoons' was one of my fave cartoons ever. Many of the episodes were great fun to watch, and Cyril Sneer made an excellent villain. My fave character bar none was and always has been Bert Raccoon, he just steals the show every time with his accident-prone antics! Many of the supporting characters do the show great justice too and the animation is well done for the time. It still looks nice today. The theme music is still as great as it was too.

Overall a very well executed series which has deservedly made DVD in Canada and the USA. All it needs now is a DVD release in the UK as well!

One of the best cartoons of the 80's, next to Transformers of course.
Scarface-1817 October 2000
This was a pretty cool cartoon. It was a little on the enviro side but it was still cool. And you gotta love the theme song. And Cyrial Sneer makes me laugh my ass off! I can't wait to see the other half of the show that I hear about, where they finally win over Cyrial. That would be a sight to see. My favorite character of course is Bert. He's so much more full of adventure than the rest of the characters and is the one that usually ultimately saves the day. So if you want to see some cool Canadian cartoons. Look for this one if you can.

Fantastic show
drawah643 November 2006
This was a series with great voices, great music, great animation and great stories. In short, a wonderful classic cartoon. My favourite characters were Bert and Cyril, probably because they got the most development (although all the characters changed a bit over time). It's unfortunate that its DVD release seems to have stopped, but on the bright side, it'll probably be shown again in Canada when Teletoon starts its own Retro channel in spring 2007. And right now it's showing on Boomerang in the UK.

The general opinion is that it went down a bit in quality towards the end, but even those episodes are still very enjoyable. The earlier, first season, and specials, were more exciting because they focused more on the raccoons fighting against Cyril Sneer's industrialism, rather than on the characters' moral dilemmas and social problems like the later ones. The music and animation was also better in the early ones.

BTW, just to clarify, it was actually an English-Canadian cartoon, not French-Canadian.

This show just plain ruled

'The Raccoons' was the best! Now this was the best show that ever aired on the Disney Channel, and it's funny because as soon as it was taken off, Disney Channel just wasn't quite the same (though it was still cool because they still showed obscure animated specials and movies!).

This was hands down the best cartoon of the '80s. There were a lot of fantastic cartoons, but this was the coolest one (though 'Muppet Babies' is way up there too). The animation's not cheaply done, the songs were great and added a lot of feel to the show, and the characters were both cute and interesting. It was also the only Canadian cartoon to be produced entirely within the country (just an interesting fact).

My favorite episode is probably the one where Lisa takes up smoking under pressure from an old friend. It was touching, but not overly preachy. You could really learn a lot from this show, and it really needs to be either put back on American TV or released on DVD.

A true classic!
njdimic4 November 2006
Many people today when they see this show say - "AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHGHHHHHHH! HAPPY CUTE RACCOONS! TURN IT OFF, TURN IT OFF" Well, let me tell you, the Raccoons are way more then just bunch of goofy animals whose sole purpose was to sell toys. The characters are very well described. Particularly Bert who was in the first 3 movies just a comic relief character without some big purpose, and now he's the star character, while the original main characters, Ralph and Melisa gone into shadow. I'm only disappointed with Cyril Sneer who was a great villain at the beginning, and throughout the show, they gave him "Ebenezer Scrooge Treatment" and eventually he became good. I liked him way more as a bad guy. I also think that the later episodes were not so great as the old ones. The cartoon had transformation from a story of Raccoons as rebels who fought Sneer the evil tyrant, to an entire city made out of forest animals with not very mature and funny stories like it had at the beginning. I liked it more at the beginning. But even with lack of quality through time, this is very great cartoon which totally describes the expression - family TV. The other thing I just have to mention is great music and especially the main themes (the opening one, and "Run With Us" song at the end). If you like classic cartoons, this is for you! Watch it, believe me, you won't disappointed!

Probably the most vivid thing i remember of my childhood.
Musketoon27 May 2005
Its funny that the raccoons is one of the only things all people of my age, 16 remember. I have that image of them canoing stuck in my mind. The raccoons has some great characters, the best being Cyril Sneer. Everyone still remembers him and think hes a great bad guy. Other great things about the raccoons is the great 80's themetune and the pretty Canadian woodland animation. It can be seen as preachy and too eco friendly but hey it wouldn't work without that. But as a person who generally dislikes things soft and cuddly I think the raccoons get it just right. They're quote but not too cute. Anyway if you want a nostalgic look back into your childhood watch the raccoons. Get it on DVD or something.

Ciril Sneer-The pigs, Cedric and his girlfriend (what was her name?), Bert, Melissa etc etc I loved them all including that funny crocodile. Great soundtrack, i loved 'you can run with us' part. Wow i don't know what else to say about it, The episode where the raccoons started up their own newspaper (the Evergreen News?) well that was one of the best.
