Two Friends Play two Antagonists
Volker-Tristram17 May 2014
Boysen and Holtzmann, two of Germany's most talented and well-known theatre actors, play the two most difficult characters in Shakespeare's play. The king-despot who is betrayed by two of his doughters, whom he has given half of his realm each. The king who progresses from powerful, manly, to old, senile, and lunatic. All that portrayed by Boysen in an incredibly realistic way. His 'antagonist' is his friend Gloucester who is mutilated for his remorseful sympathy for his ( former ) king, is played congenially by Boysens friend in private life, Thomas Holtzmann. This must be one of the most memorable performances ( of a Shakespeare play ) on a German stage. Well worth watching if available on DVD.
