Asta Talks!
richardchatten15 March 2022
Gracefully made and well acted, and of course historically important as Asta Nielsen's first talkie. It demonstrated that sound was no obstacle to her, continuing as she had always done to let those big expressive eyes do most of the work rather than her voice.

scandal

Warning: Spoilers
Asta Nielsen's.only talkie. Well played from all actors. Her voice is fine, so there was no reason for her stopping the career. The film is well made, the story easy to follow and not boring (unlike too many other early films). However, the story itself is not very convincing, at least from a 2022 perspective. A widow (Asta) in her early 50s is dating younger man, in his 30s. This is causing a scandal. For me, there is nothing scandalous about it, but perhaps I am too much trapped in my own time.
