It would seem churlish to complain about a porn video with a surplus of female cast members, but director Bobby Hollander did get carried away with this open air sex offering. It's sort of a forerunner of current high-priced porn from distributors like Marc Dorcel or Digital Playground where they boast of content like "18 girls and 12 scenes", usually running 3 hours or more.
But BEAVER LAKE was made back in the VHS era and Hollander has great difficulty stuffing (literally) all these women into a 90-minute package. It's been reissued on DVD by Alpha Blue Archives as part of a tribute to starlet Heather Thomas, who does have a brief moment in the sun here alongside 13 (count 'em) other beauties.
Most dominant figure is camp counselor Paul Thomas, three years before he added directing to his successful acting career. He appears reluctant (for maybe a nanosecond or so) to hump the seductive jail bait offering themselves to him, however this is no tease but closer to an all-sex video. Its title states "The Movie", but unfortunately it's shot on video and suffers from that.
Mindy Rae's massive frontage steals many a scene here, as she's up against mainly svelte young things typified by the prettiest cast member, Crystal Breeze. Billy Dee also gets his licks in as another counselor.
Visual motif is a non-stop parade of girls either topless or in wet t-shirts, long before it was a porn (soft or hard) cliché. I guess Hollander would have become a billionaire had he the foresight to corner the market on what would become a cottage industry exploiting drunken young women. And don't try to convince me that he was "above" such things!
As stated at the outset of my review, this is a good example of "too much of a good thing". While porn, especially in the earliest days of hardcore, usually centered around an average cast of three women, having so many is bound to be disappointing to fans of individual ones. For example, BEAVER LAKE wastes such attractive personages as Brandi Alexander and Beverly Bliss in the front-loaded ensemble.
Outdoor videotaping and a generally upbeat, carefree atmosphere typify this outing, which generated a long-delay sequel made not by Hollander but other pornographers and currently unavailable as far as I can reckon.
Oddest credit quirk is the huge cast being attributed to Pretty Girl International Agency. It's a small world, as IMDb reveals they also cast the horrendous softcore junker PSYCHED BY THE 4D WITCH, which is every bit as pretentious as BEAVER LAKE is mindless.
