Slack French crime piece
Mozjoukine26 December 2003
The French cops and robbers pieces of the fifties were pretty slack affairs until TOUCHEZ PAS LE GRISBI raised the bar.

This one is only really interesting for the presence of Von Stroheim at the fag end of his career, showing up belatedly as a crime Czar.

Film making is routine despite what looks like an adequate budget.

Von Stroheim 's next to last performance....

...and not much at that cause his appearance does not exceed seven or eight minutes (his two scenes together that is).And it's not really a good part.A cheapskate epitath.

The rest: a pale imitation of Becker's "touchez pas au grisbi" and Dassin's "du rififi chez les hommes" both released the precedent year.Even the good cast (including Robert Hossein ,Henri Vidal, and FRançois Mitterrand's brother-in-law Roger Hanin) does not succeed in filling the viewer with enthusiasm. That just shows you how the script (including drug traffickers, guns ,molls) is hackneyed. There are plenty of dead bodies, and the movie was a NC 18 ,which seems obsolete today.
