One redeeming quality
jf-lagardere30 November 2006
The movie is weak, that's true and the plot far from being new.

It has one redeeming quality though: its main actress, Christin (Regula Grauwiller).

She is a gorgeous red and curly haired swiss girl whose good looks make worth the viewing. Mother Nature's daughter. And the good news is that the movie is essentially us following her. She runs a lot and she wears shorts so we get to see her legs a lot, at least in the first part while she's in Venezuela. In my opinion, the better part of the movie.

Dare I say, the original Indiana Jones movies, whose genre this one belongs to, aren't that better, both the intrigue and the acting. They have higher production values.

Hardy Martins is a decent third-grade Bruce Willis.

A final mention for the two hit men, Bull and Gonzo, whose acting efforts are liable to raise a smile.

Goonies meets Indiana Jones - and the outcome is a waste of time.

When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I thought: Wow, this could be an interesting film, sort of funny, sort of cool, sort of exciting. But when I watched the movie I was merely disappointed. Again, a German Production has overdone it with the action scenes, and in the end the whole thing is nothing more than a stunt movie.

I cannot comment on the actors, because I simply do not know if it was the script, the director or their acting which was laughable. Anyway, the story line is so obvious, that everybody who has seen a couple of these "Good guys try to get a treasure, and bad guys try to kill them and get it too"-movies can really write the script by himself. Thank God I saw the whole thing on TV. I could at least flee every now and then and watch something else...

Oh, I saw many, many movies in my life. I saw a lot B- and C- Grade movies, but Cascadeur is the most idiotic ever ! The acting, the dialogues, the direction and at least the actors themselves - a simple joke. All over the movie i couldn't stop laughing - such embarrassing, absolutely unrealistic and boring 95 minutes. Man, Hardy Martins, who did this involuntary funny picture nearly by his own, he must have been totally drunken while making Cascadeur - that's the only credible explanation. I can only hope, that this piece of Sxxt will never been shown in another country except Germany !

Germany and action movies... no words

Warning: Spoilers
"Cascadeur" is a German 105-minute movie from 1998, so this one will have its 20th anniversary next year and this one was directed by Hardy Martins, who also plays one of the crucial characters in here. It is not a small screen block buster like so many other German action films that try to make an impact, frequently about catastrophes. But just like these, this one here is a failure as well for the most part. Even if it is for other reasons. But sometimes also for the same reasons. For example, it is not just action, also drama, adventure, romance and yeah there are a lot of genres packed in here and I certainly would prefer if they had kept it at 1 or 2 genres and properly delivered in these. The way it actually turned out, this is not the case. It is a bit of everything, not enough of anything. Heiner Lauterbach, probably the biggest name here, can be a charismatic actor at times, but his character here felt as forgettable as basically everybody else, including the protagonists playing the good guys. Lack of shades is also a common problem I believe. The characters here are either 100% good (saint-like) or 100%t evil (devil-like). The violence feels for the sake of it and never turns this into a gritty watch and the characters overall as well as the general plot idea never made a lasting impact on me. Or an impact at all. So yeah, I suggest you keep your distance with this one here as it was a very bizarre watch. Itg also looked really cheap I would say, even for a film for the 1990s. production values are just as much a letdown as everything else in here. Watch something else instead.

Why do European critics trash European movies more readily than anyone else? Could it be that they understand the language? Or did I miss the worst of this movie while trying to keep up with the subtitles? Nonetheless, I found this movie a very fun guilty pleasure trip. I was expecting a very shaky movie, having read that Hardy Martins originally planned to have Jackie Chan in his role, only had a shooting permit valid for a couple of hours to shoot the big car collision scene and clear out, and that the big black plane was rented from the Russian government, and had to go through six full repaintings--it wasn't originally black, because of the weather. Who wouldn't root for director, lead role, and producer Hardy Martins after reading all this? And he pulls off the movie with enough thread to take you from one stunt scene to the other. Interestingly, there's even a scene where the hero is RELUCTANT to go on his ass-whopping journey when his friend dies (he does not jump to the Godfatherly conclusion that it's green lights for retaliation--and the best part of the movie!!). How often does that happen in Hollywood?
