That's the first time I watch a German movie without subtitles and not dubbed ether. Such a shame I don't understand German language, not enough to follow this story, I mean.
It takes place in Germany, during WW2, in the latest days of the Third Reich, some weeks before its fall.
A convoy of German POWs is organized in order to evacuate the men from the lines, away from the Russian army. In that purpose, the authorities use a train. And an officer is in charge of this perilous mission.
But the story will show him doing many things more than taking care of the POWs. He will also help some civilians, perhaps Jews, to run away from the Nazis.
We of course think of John Frankenheimer's masterpiece THE TRAIN, the story of an odyssey in war. The German officer in charge of the train is more sympathetic than Paul Scofield's character in THE TRAIN. The actor plays here a poignant person. Very taut film indeed, as far as I could follow. Sorry.
