Slapstick
Oswald is the cop on the park beat. When a nurse asks him to watch her charge in a baby buggy, he finds he has a little monster on his hands in this Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon.
Slapstick comedy had changed immeasurably with the coming of sound. During the silent era, a lot of the gags were under-cranked so the complicated balletic movements could be performed and the glitches covered up by the film speed -- film accompanist and historian Ben Model has documented this in a lecture he has given at several venues, including the Library of Congress and the Museum of Modern Art.
This Oswald cartoon and several others in 1932 are clearly an effort to keep silent slapstick going. This even uses several of the tropes from film comedy of a couple of decades earlier. While this one is very entertaining, cartoons are not live-action slapstick. It would take another three or four years for a different and better cartoon style to emerge, one with roots in live movie and comic strips.
