Poison
Ben_Cheshire27 March 2004
Among this collection of experimental fragments are a one minute long little grab which consists of a shot of a corner store right way up, then a shot out its round window on the side, so that people walk up the screen from bottom to top. An interesting little shot.

The second from these experiments i saw was more striking. A short film about five minutes in length called Poison, probably the most impressive Man Ray film i've seen, which consists of alternating closeups of two characters, a man and a woman, both sitting at a table, both consuming some kind of poison (the woman is smoking, the man is drinking whiskey). Both characters are entertaining - the woman has a fascinating, expressive face, and the man pulls funny faces after drinking some whiskey. At the end of the short the man starts gagging, reeling and eventually dies before our eyes.

Poison is the only Man Ray film that feels more than an experiment. Including Emak-Bakia.
