OK "incestuous family" Italian sex comedy
lazarillo27 April 2008
I'm a little embarrassed to say that I have now seen enough 1970's Italian sex comedies to be able to recognize many of of the strange subgenres and film cycles within that very strange era of the "comedia all'italia". One of the strangest has got to be a series of films that appeared in the mid-1970's revolving around the zany hijinx of vaguely incestuous bourgeois Italian families. To be fair, these "incestuous family" comedies usually stopped short of truly taboo types of incest (father-daughter, brother-sister, etc.), but it was nevertheless a pretty bizarre (and very Italian) trend.

In this movie a rich older man dies during a massage (you see, uh--never mind). His young widow (Lucrezia Love) decides she needs some male help in managing her deceased husband's estate (for some reason she doesn't ask the family lawyer who she spends all her time rolling around in the hay with), so she summons her younger step-brother to come stay with her and her "little stepdaughter" (Gloria Guida). Of course, Guida's character ends up being attracted to her new "uncle" and plots to get "his bird in her bush" by, among other things, arranging for him to witness a steamy lesbian encounter between her and a friend in a, uh, steam room. To resist this temptation, the "uncle" marries Guida off to another guy while he in turn marries her friend, but they still can't resist each other.

This movie, unfortunately, doesn't have quite the cast of some of the other "incestual family" comedies (i.e. "Sins of the Family", "Vices of the Family", or the more dramatic "Appasionata"). Lucrezia Love was a perennial piece of perpetually exposed tail in 70's Italian films, but hardly one of the more reknown actresses of the era. The actor playing the "uncle" appeared with Guida in a number of sex comedies, but he is very miscast here as the "older" man since he actually looks quite a bit younger than his voluptuous co-star. Guida will certainly capture heterosexual male attention with her usual, frequent full-frontal (and full-dorsal) nude scenes, but you actually need a LITTLE more than that to make a truly entertaining movie. This is okay, but not that great.
