The Three Stooges
boblipton9 September 2018
The trio from DOG, CAT AND CANARY return for more hijinx in this late screen gems cartoon. Once again, the cat wants to eat the canary and the dog doesn't want that to happen. Neither does the canary. Hugh McCollum, Jules White's associate producer in the comedy shorts department, is credited as the producer, and it's a very good cartoon, with a nicely rising level of franticness in the gags.

For some reason the ink-and-paint department uses an awful lot of blue in this one -- perhaps because they knew that the cartoon department was being shut down and they didn't want to waste the money or effort of mixing colors. The men in suits had already signed contracts and Columbia would end cartoon production and be releasing UPA product. Screen Gems would release more cartoons for a couple of years, but they would be ones produced earlier and held back.
