Amadee van Beuren did more than produce cartoons for distribution by RKO, including this Cubby Bear. He also got himself a producer's credit for Frank Buck's hit movies about how he captured wild animals for zoos and circuses. I suppose the thinking was that there is no such thing as bad publicity, one hand washes the other and so forth, so Cubby puts on a pith helmet and invades the jungle.
Although the gags in this cartoon are pretty good, director Vernon Stalling did a poor job of supervising his animators, who are all over the map. Notice the way that Cubby Bear's movements vary from one segment to another. Although this was a problem that afflicted other studios from time to time, particularly Mintz' efforts for Columbia, it's very distracting here.
