The show was initially set to air on ESPN as part of a kids block they were planning on releasing. However, these plans were scrapped and the show was picked up by NBC for Saturday Morning.
Originally, the show planned on having four athletes for all four major team sports: baseball, basketball, football and hockey. However, budget issues cut this down to three, with Bo Jackson representing both football and baseball.
Originally during development, the white female leader character was supposed to be Dr. Ruth Westheimer. However, it was later decided that her most famous work as a sex therapist would have created too much controversy for a Saturday morning cartoon and the character was altered into a more generic character.
Even though he was a part of the show, Michael Jordan was never involved with the live segments, outside of quick, prerecorded bits played during each episode.
The original theme song was based off of Queen's "We Will Rock You." However, licensing costs caused the show to switch to an original theme song midway through the series run.
