Goosebumps

October is the perfect time of year to indulge in a few Halloween frights, and for those movie lovers with children, Paranormal Activity, and Crimson Peak just won’t do. So Goosebumps will have to fill that gap. Twenty-somethings might feel the temptation to revisit the property since they grew up with it, but this is strictly kids’ fare.
With hundreds of Goosebumps novels to choose from, Sony could easily release at least one movie a year until 2020. Instead, director Rob Letterman forgoes the traditional route of adapting teen-lit and places the author into the story. Jack Black plays the real R.L. Stine–so to speak. If viewed more optimistically, Letterman’s approach to throw everything at to see what sticks could be seen as an homage to all of Stine’s work, but it feels rather like a...

It’s safe to say that “Guardians of the Galaxy” score composer Tyler Bates has never written a cue titled “What A Bunch Of A-holes” before. “That’s James Gunn,” Bates laughs, referring to the movie’s director. “That was in his dialog. It was fun.” The fact that Gunn named a number of the music cues is a testament to the closeness that Bates and Gunn enjoy after working on a trio of Gunn-directed films together: “Slither,” “Super” and now “Guardians.” They met when Bates scored and Gunn wrote Zack Snyder’s “Dawn of the Dead.” The pair’s working relationship is such that Gunn brought in Bates as soon as the director got the “Guardians” job. “He started telling me his thoughts in terms of tone. He wanted dramatic and thematic,” Bates says. “He asked if I’d be up to writing in advance.” Bates began writing material...

Hollywood Records and Marvel are releasing three albums from Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy on Tuesday, July 29.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Deluxe soundtrack features classic 1970s songs from the film, plus score by composer Tyler Bates (“Watchmen,” “Slither,” “Dawn of the Dead”). Music plays a major role in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy as the great songs featured in the film are part of the storyline in a unique way.
Explaining how the songs come to play in the story, director James Gunn says, “One of the main story points in the movie is that Quill has this compilation tape [Awesome Mix #1] that he got from his mother before she died that she made for him. It was of songs that she loved, all songs from the 1970s, and that’s the only thing he has left of his mother and that’s the only thing he has left of his home on Earth.

Deval Patrick emboldened the Democratic base during his rousing Tuesday-night convention speech by proclaiming that it was time for the party to "grow a backbone." Judging by Lewis Black's comments on tonight's upcoming "Joy Behar: Say Anything!" on Current TV, he agrees.
In this exclusive clip from the interview, Black tears into the Dems for being all talk with little action, and the incessant summertime saber-rattling of both parties. "I've listened to this litany all my life, just do the stuff you gotta do... You have nine months to talk to us, otherwise shut up during the summer, unless you've got a barbecue recipe..."
Black also went on to credit the Dems lack of action as the reason joking about them isn't a lot of fun: "Democrats are like a big tortoise that's on its back & can't get up, you can't make jokes about that."

Studio Mariscal A scene from “Chico & Rita”
Fernando Trueba is not a nostalgic man. Instead he chooses to constantly “fall in love” and rediscover pieces of culture, said the Spanish director. Which is why his newest film, “Chico & Rita,” is a celebration of Havana and its music in the late 1940s. It also marks the director’s first foray into animation.
Working with his longtime friend and illustrator Javier Mariscal, Trueba knew the differences between live action and animation before he begun the process.
