The uncrowded sky
dbdumonteil17 August 2011
As such was sometimes the case in the early thirties ,there are two versions of the same film:Brigitte Helm is featured in both ,with Gustav FrÖhlich ,her co-star in "Metropolis" in the German version, and André Luguet in the French one. This version also features JEan Gabin as a mechanic but he seems to be bored stiff.

At a time when the French productions often filmed plays ,this is a a laudable attempt at a story dealing with the sky and the aviators.

An aviator is married and has a child :His wife is afraid he may die in those aerobatics ,and she urges him to call it a day;but the wife admires another pilot's feats.Offended ,the humiliated husband is aiming high: Ocean crossing ,no less! Unfortunately, the special effects are rather rough-and -ready ,(it was 1931)and in spite of the radio messages ,it's impossible to believe the aviators are in jeopardy.

Director Yvan Noé's best work remains "La Cavalcade Des Heures".
