The lack of recent Transformers films has obviously left a big robot-sized hole in all our hearts. But fear not! Universal is just now developing a live-action Voltron film to fill that hole, and have even hired Watchmen scribe David Hayter to write the screenplay.
Voltron was a 1980s anime series that told the story of young pilots controlling massive Lion robots that form into the Voltron warrior and do battle on the planet Arus. Although the show only ran from 1984-85 in the States, Voltron was a bit of a cultural phenomenon in its own right, spawning a 1986 TV special Voltron: Fleet of Doom.
It later found a new incarnation as a computer-animated series Voltron: The Third Dimension, in 1998, and again as Voltron Force on Nickelodeon in 2011 (both series lasted only 26 episodes). The most recent small-screen version of the show, Voltron: Legendary Defender, premiered on Netflix this summer, with...

A little over a year ago, atrejub and I took a trip to Wep's main headquarters in St. Louis to get the lowdown on the latest Voltron developments. We got a few cool exclusives on the upcoming movie and Voltron Force, and were invited to come back some time for an update. Since Voltron Force will be debuting in under a month, we figured it would be a great time to drop in and get another advance look for Corona readers.
A lot has happened since last year's visit. Voltron has made cameo appearances on Breaking In and Megan Fox, some frankly untrue news stories have appeared declaring the live-action movie to be dead in the water (the short version: Charles Roven and Atlas Entertainment are still attached, and it's still in development), and fan interest in Voltron is higher than it has been since the eighties. The official Facebook...

Hot on the heels of word that a new ThunderCats series is in the works at Cartoon Network comes the anouncement that another '80s cartoon, Voltron, is getting its own new series for Nickelodeon's Nicktoons channel.
Yes, that's right -- the cartoon about five guys (and later four guys and one girl) who pilot different lion-esque robots that combine to form one large robot called Voltron, charged with defending the entire universe. And a kid who owned all five robots and thus could create their own Voltron pretty much ruled their entire neighborhood.
The new series, called Voltron Force, will follow five new "young cadets" in the Voltron Lion Squad. This is not the first attempt to reboot the Voltron franchise; in 1998, we got a syndicated CGI series called Voltron: The Third Dimension and there's been talk for years of a live-action Voltron movie. Despite the success of Transformers...

With budgets on the rise and total investments for studio pictures creeping toward the half a billion dollar mark, Hollywood needs a sure thing. So we hear terms like, “built-in audience” or “high-concept” or “ancillary revenues.” The summer movie schedule becomes a long list of sequels, prequels and remakes in the studios’ quest to recoup their investments. The success of the Transformer franchise has them scrambling. Cartoons from the 80’s are now the hot property. The studios are scouring the countryside for the next Transformers. I’m hearing names that I haven’t heard since I was eight, He-man, Thundercats, Go-Bots, Silverhawks and the Mighty Orbots. But one of the most popular cartoons from the 80’s is still out there, Voltron.
I remember the years 1984-1986 fondly as “the Voltron years.” I lived, breathed, ate and slept Voltron. I believe I was 10 when I discovered the company that owns Voltron,...
