Ewan McGregor, Sam Heughan and Mark Strong are set to star in “Everest,” the next film from director Doug Liman (“Edge of Tomorrow”) about a team of climbers in 1921 who attempt to brave the world’s tallest peak, Mount Everest.
The film is being presented to buyers at the Cannes Film Market next week, with UTA Independent Film Group overseeing the U.S. sale and HanWay Films handling international sales and distribution. Production aims to begin in the UK and Italy in January 2022, and the film is produced by Jennifer Klein and Liman.
“Everest” is not based on a true story of real climbers, but is inspired by the novel “Paths of Glory” by author Jeffrey Archer. The book tells the story of a climber named George Mallory who died attempting to climb Everest; in the novel, it remained a mystery whether or not he ever reached the summit.

Tonight we’ve reached the halfway point and watched the most action packed and the shortest episode of the season. We’re on the path of blood and war and tonight’s episode demonstrated what happens when you “wake the dragon”. But hold on! Before we get any further into tonight’s review, have you watched Game of Thrones “The Spoils of War” episode 4 of season 7 yet? If you haven’t then look away GoT fans, because there will be spoilers. Alright, you’ve been warned. Come on in and let’s discuss.

The Reaping of Highgarden
As expected the reaping of Highgarden is well underway and by the look on Jamie Lannister’s face I don’t think this is his favorite part of warmongering. Every penny of the Highgarden gold is going to the Iron Bank.

“Mary + Jane”
September 5 on MTV
What Is It? From the writer/directors behind the cult favorite “Josie and the Pussycats” adaptation, this series follows two “ganjapeneurs” who run a weed delivery service in Los Angeles.
I’ll Like It If I Like… The “Broad City” influence is pretty clear, as the show is focused on the tight friendship between Jordan (Scout Durwood) and Paige (Jessica Rothe) and their stoner antics.
Why Should I Care? Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont’s unique approach to satirizing La hipster culture really help this show stand out from the pack of other female-led comedies, while also promising a more surreal touch. Durwood and Rothe also make for an enjoyable pairing. For fans of the pot comedy genre, it’s an easy sell.
“Atlanta”
September 6 on FX

All is fair in the Game of Thrones, but the Baratheons are quickly running out of heirs. Excluding the White Walker threat*, the main source of strife in Game of Thrones is the fight for the Iron Throne. Or to be free from the rule of the Iron Throne. Nobles and smallfolk alike have perished in droves to see their side come out on top. For now, King Tommen Baratheon rules, but all signs point to him not making it out alive. Which would throw a massive wrench into everything. *For all we know, maybe the Night King wants the Iron Throne too. To explain why Tommen’s demise would be a crushing blow to the stability of the Seven Kingdoms, first we need a very brief recent history lesson. Less than two decades ago, Westeros was still ruled by the Targaryens. It wasn’t until the Mad King went...

Own, the Oprah Winfrey Network releases the first trailer for its new original drama series Greenleaf from Lionsgate TV and Emmy-nominated writer/producer Craig Wright (Lost, Six Feet Under, Brothers and Sisters). In Sunday’s episode of True Blood, the plot/plots thickens/thicken like a good remoulade sauce. (And yes, I did ask someone who can cook for help in writing the preceding sentence. I’m putting the “investigative” in “investigative reporter,” yo!) Not only do we get a new vampire, a new couple and a big, albeit temporary, casualty, Warlow’s identity (as well as quite a bit of his surprisingly toned physique!) is — as the title, “At Last,” foretells —revealed. Want the deets? Keep reading!

It's time for a new season of Degrassi and Cam's still depressed.
I just hope he doesn't start chugging milk again.

Jason Ritter has joined Friends & Family, the Fox comedy pilot based on Gavin & Stacey, taking the Gavin role. That's got to be a promising first step, right?
Maggie Smith tells 60 Minutes this weekend that she's never watched Downton Abbey, saying she'd "agonize" over her performance if she did. That's right, even Maggie Smith has those moments of insecurity.
Apparently they didn't mean it. E! has cancelled Whitney Cummings' talk show, Love You, Mean It.
NBC's adaption of About a Boy has cast its lead female, asking Minnie Driver to step into the role played by Toni Collette in the film.
CBS' summer adaptation of Stephen King's Under the Dome just added Breaking Bad alum Dean Norris to the cast.
Wait. Wait. What's this about Cch Pounder...
