Not really great
garko809 July 2004
This was the third and the last western from Batzella and it isn't better than the other.

Two good actors, Cameron and O'Brien, a simple story and a bad directing makes a not really bad but boring movie. The soundtrack from Kojucharov is OK. He also composed music to a few other Spaghetti Western. This movie is also a combination of the two others so you can see a lot of scenes which you have also seen in the other both.

All in all there is nothing more to say about this movie. You don't have to the three Batzella movies. Better to watch the western from Demofilo Fidani, they are also bad but very funny.

Cheap And Bloody, Which Some People Like
boblipton12 April 2020
Mexican bandits have taken over the cattle trade in town, and are holding Esmeralda Barros captive to get their hands on her father's silver mine. Sheriff Attilio Dottesio can't do anything about it because reasons, so he asks the cavalry for help. They can't do anything, but they can release Jeff Cameron (nee Goffredo Scarciofolo), a native of the town for a week. Will he alone be enough time to kill off the bad guys and restore the town to a decency which the sheriff and the many good people in Langford City can't accomplish? Why do you even ask?

They aren't called 'spaghetti westerns' as a term of respect. They were cheap, and usually got most of the details wrong in a way that reflected neither the American myth nor history. No one here looks like anything but a 1970s Italian, and the cheapness meant no retakes; early on, while horsemen are riding through a street filled with corpses, one of the bodies moves when a horse gets too near.

If you want to see lots of gun battles and people behaving badly, this is the western for you. It's not for me.

Late Italian western
BandSAboutMovies19 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of times when watching Italian westerns I wonder, "Did I see this before?"

Sometimes that's a trick question as this movie remixes Anche per Django le carogne hanno un prezzo (Even for Django, Death Has a Price) and Paid in Blood, which were both directed by Luigi Batzella.

I say directed and probably should have quotes around it because just like The Devil's Wedding Night there's a prevailing notion that Joe D'Amato is the one who really directed this.

Jeff Cameron saves a town from bandits as Captain Mike Jackson. Cameron was born Goffredo Scarciofolo and only made two more movies after this; the majority of his films are either westerns or peplum. Krista Nell, who tragically died way too young at the age of 28, is in this, as are Gianfranco Clerici (who went on to write Don't Torture a Duckling, The Antichrist, Cannibal Holocaust and The New York Ripper), Attilio Dottesio (Death Smiles at a Murderer) and Donald O'Brien, who was in so many of my favorite Italian movies that it's hard to just pick one (or fifteen) to list.

The western genre was dying, but better things would come for D'Amato.

Familiar but fast-paced western tale
Leofwine_draca15 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
GOD IS MY COLT is a familiar spaghetti western made on a low budget. The story is about an army officer working undercover in order to rid a town of a group of Mexican bandits who have been ruling the roost there. Jeff Cameron is the wooden hero of the hour, and the whole thing has a shot-on-the-fly feel to it which robs the entertainment value somewhat. Still, Euro cult star Donald O'Brien plays in support and there's a wealth of action throughout, so it's not all bad; just middling.

It is indeed a film that exists.

God is my Colt is a strange film it was released only a month before Bounty Hunter In Trinity which i hail as a "trash western" Classic and was made with a Low budget and was alot of fun and Both are indeed quite similar in some ways like for example the Low budget and Reusal Of some scenes from a different film/s and Star Jeff Cameron (or as i like to Call him sometimes Jeffy boy cause its funny). The film however has a more complicated storyline therefore Thats better but the film is still unintentionally funny and at one point i was laughing the hardest i laughed ever at a film probably but i was also watching it with my cousin but still even alone i would have found it pretty Damn hilarious. The film has quite a few main female characters surprisingly not one or two BUT THREE Main female characters and there is one awfully great catfight between two female characters which has almost porn like sound effects at one point. The Dubbing is ehhh Not very good not the worst actually average for spaghetti westerns since they always have pretty shoddy dubs. The soundtrack is really good and its not stolen i think so its unusuall good for such a ultra trashy western like this. The film while maybe a but less trashy than Bounty Hunter in Trinity has alot more continuity issues however it does have More beautiful Locationwork and i really liked that the main character is an army man undercover which is cool. While i said some positive things About this i must admit...i actually found this movie quite boring at times usually during talkie sequences which is definetly not a good thing in a film that already pretty much sucks although has some fun but does get saved by alot of things that i mentioned and the Low budget aesthetic which is still very strong here. Last thing i wanna mention in this review is that Jeff has two guns in this movie one which is a standard Colt 45 which youd see in every western ever but he also has...a 1860 Colt army That has a STOCK ON IT! Now Thats Badass! Anyways i sort of reccomend it in a way this "film"
