He says, she says
SnoopyStyle17 April 2016
Alan (Robert Mailhouse) and Laura (Alison Eastwood) are married. After a night at the strip club with the boys, Alan picks up a stranded motorist. She turns out to be a hooker and he gets arrested for a bj. Laura throws him out. Brent (William Ragsdale) and Danny (Jonathan Silverman) are his friends. Allison (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) and Terrianne (Jessica Lundy) are her friends. Danny considers that it is "Just A Little Harmless Sex".

This is a lot of he says, she says. The structure is too static which makes it kinda boring. The dialog ranges from sitcom level to rom-com level to sometimes a little deeper. While I love most of these actors, Danny is a superficial douche and Brent is also one to a lesser extent. Alan and Laura are a bit too bland. Allison holds some potential because of her feelings. In the end, there is no compelling story and there is simply no tension.

Not bad for a late night cable movie
Illusia30 December 2001
I caught this on cable at about 4:30 in the morning. It was pretty funny. I recognized some of the actors, and was pleasantly surprised with their performances. It was a cute movie, and somewhat accurately described what seems to be the average girls night out. I thought that the scenes with his friends hitting on his mother-in-law were great. I dont know if I would rent this, but if it was on cable again I would most likely watch it. =)

But a lot of painful viewing
guyb1 January 2000
This movie was very painful to watch. The plot was not new, the acting was on par with average TV sitcoms and the characters were not very likeable. This could have been boiled down to a half hour wednesday night on ABC and not wasted my time. I rented this video based on "two thumbs up by Siskel and Ebert

Very Dull

This movie got nothing to enjoy. The Women are beautiful and that's all.Kimberly williams is suppose to strip wow!she takes her blouse off.She should stick to roles like father of the bride no risk there. So what you got is four women who talk about sex and four guys who are as stupid as the girls are. What a waste of money and talent.I cannot care for any of the characters. My mistake was to watch this movie after I saw body shots. The girls in this movie does more than talk they actualy take their clothes off when they make love.

It's no "Swingers" but still mildly entertaining
Go_Blue_9930 November 1999
"Just a little harmless sex" is a flimsy, silly sex farce. The story concerns 3 males, 3 females, and stories of infidelity and picking up mates. Everyone seems to be sexually aggressive in the movie, even one of the character's mothers.

It is mostly a comedy, but there is a fair amount of drama in the movie. Should you forgive a loved one for cheating on you? Not because they are in love with someone else, but because they are horny at a particular moment? This is the main theme of the movie.

The cast of the movie saves it. It was surprising to see Kimberly Williams (of "father of the bride fame") performing a long strip scene near the end.

And for all of you looking for gratuitous nudity, the intro scene is the only nude scene in the entire movie.

Exceptionally Boring!
JohnHowardReid15 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This so-called "sex comedy" has very little to recommend it. A one- joke affair that seems to take forever to get to its well- telegraphed "climax", this justly titled "Just a Little Harmless Sex" was obviously directed by someone who realized that the script was so boring that the only chance the producer had of retrieving some of his money was a quick sale to TV. The only trouble with this theory is that Rick Rosenthal was both producer and director, so why he chose to direct EVERY SINGLE CAMERA SET-UP in a boringly relentless TV style, abounding with tight close-ups and two-shots (plus an occasional three for a bit of variety) is a real mystery. Admittedly, the players do make a gallant effort to keep the movie moving, but they are hemmed in by a plot that telegraphs its next scene "surprises" well ahead of the game. How the movie managed to amass such good reviews amazes me. Normally, reviewers would tear apart such a poorly written and over- strenuously acted show that moves with the pace of a snail from one boring, well-telegraphed scene to the next. Admittedly, the players put a lot of effort into their roles, but that's just the problem. Successful acting must SEEM effortless!

Yes

I liked this movie shown in 2007 on free to air TV here and viewed by myself while googling and jpeg stealing. It did the trick for me, i thought it was a 7 I got a couple of really good laughs and the story was consistent.Good characters. Possibly if you try to take this movie too seriously then you just don't get it. Could this movie become a black comedy classic in years to come? I was intrigued by the chefs surprise and the whole music thing was real good ...I thought the soundtrack was fine, in fact i wanted all of the main characters to be my friends, you know, i'd be hangin out with em and stuff and that the whole movie was one big tongue in cheek giggle for 90mins or so.Some of those Jinks club scenes were almost tiltshift and i think there's maybe a touch of Friends in there also the way they're all sharing their secrets as they're getting drunker. I am certainly glad i happened to see it. As for there being a few that didn't like it i can understand that. Tell me the truth you guys, you didn't like Hudson Hawk either right?

A cute, light comedy....a good rental
dantwo17 January 2000
Found this movie to be a perfect Sat evening rental.....some light comedy (a few very funny scenes) added with some drama, and a pretty good cast. It is not Shakespeare, that is for sure...but what is?

The only glaring problem was a stage-hand's head popping up at the bottom of the screen during a particularly good scene towards the end.

Not much of a movie but...

plenty of eye candy. Very Weak story but Getting to look at Ally Eastwood, Kim Williams and others i.e. Rachel Hunter and a few others is interesting for a few minutes. Turn the sound down though because the dialog stinks.

Prophylactic Intolerance
tedg28 May 2003
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers herein.

We all want to be teenagers and some films are built to pander to that drive.

The teenage condition is one in which all things are subservient to sex, but sex isn't something you actually do. It isn't something that is a component of a relationship but something that defines it (and life). It is how you define yourself. Friends exist to talk about things, and since all things ultimately are part of that prime mover, the topic is always sex in some form.

How to engineer a movie for this? Talk talk talk about sex -- don't do it. (Have a strip tease with no stripping.) Have some minidramas on the order of `going steady' and `breaking' up, but cast it among grown-ups. That's because the target audience wants to be kids but doesn't see itself as kids. Have lots of `raw' talk. Have some minor misunderstandings and difficulties that only become large because they have been talked about with friends. Have opportunistic crushes.

Denote the fact that we are generation-hopping by having the `Mom' be hot and `in play.' Don't have any redheads because redheads are serious stuff (in movies).

Ted's Evaluation -- 1 of 4: You can find something better to do with this part of your life.

Boo

If you would like to see a very bad episode of Melrose Place done by some very poor actors trying to be comedic...then rent this flick. This is one of the worst movies I have EVER seen. I have never felt the compulsion to enter a comment here before but the producers of this movie duped me and I want revenge. The box for this movie has snippets of reviews praising this garbage.... don't be fooled. The 'plot' is anorexic. The 'acting' is frightening. I actually felt sorry for the performers, knowing that at one point they had to sit through a screening of their work. What a waste of time and money by me and the makers of this flotsam. Boo.
