- In 2010, Nintendo released a limited edition red variant of the Wii console as a part of celebrating the Super Mario series' 25th anniversary. As a bonus, this version of the system came pre-loaded with "25th Anniversary Super Mario Bros", a modified version of the original NES game. The only difference is the graphics for the item blocks, which now have the number "25" on them instead of questions marks.
- An arcade port titled "Vs. Super Mario Bros." was released in 1986. This version, which emphasizes competitive play as the name indicates, contains several noticeable differences from the NES version, many of which serve to make the game more challenging. Several levels were modified slightly, such as having hidden 1-up blocks removed, while others were replaced entirely with similar, more difficult levels (including some from the Japanese version of "Super Mario Bros. 2"). Certain levels only give the player 350 seconds to complete them instead of 400, and the starting number of lives can be changed by the machine operator (as well as the number of coins needed for a 1-Up, which can now exceed 100). Additionally, specific changes were made to the level design to prevent both the Minus World glitch and the Infinite 1-Up trick from being performed by players.
- The 2014 Wii U game "NES Remix 2" included "Super Luigi Bros.", a modified version of the NES game made as the final game for Nintendo's "Year of Luigi" anniversary celebration. Several gameplay differences are present; instead of Mario, Player 1 now controls Luigi, who now has a higher jump height like in other Super Mario games, and the entire level design is mirrored horizontally, meaning levels are played from right-to-left instead of vice versa. The ending was also changed, having Luigi defeat Bowser only to discover that Mario has already rescued Princess Peach.
- "Super Mario Bros. 35", an online battle royale version of Super Mario Bros., was released for the Nintendo Switch in October 2020. It was made available for free until March 31, 2021, and the game's servers were shut down the following day, meaning it can no longer be played.
- Was rereleased to the Game Boy Color in 1999 in the USA, (2000 in Japan), as Super Mario DX. It was the same game, but fetured a Yoshi, and a red coin challenge. It also had an option to play as Luigi, and a map of the Mushroom Kingdom.
- The game was remade from the ground-up and included as a part of "Super Mario All-Stars", a compilation of Mario games released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in August 1993 (USA release date). This version features different physics and updated graphics/music, as well as removing the secret "Minus World" from the Nintendo version was removed.
