"In the Wild" is a PBS series of one-hour episodes featuring various Hollywood entertainers traversing the globe in search of a variety of wildlife. In this 1995 episode, "Pandas with Debra Winger," the actress known to many as the woman carried off into the sunset by Richard Gere, travels to China with her son to learn about the giant panda.
Filmed as a documentary, Winger hosts a journey across the expanse of China, traveling from Shanghai to a preserve in the Qionglai Mountains in search of the elusive giant panda in the wild. Accompanied by Winger are several Chinese scientists who help us understand why this unique animal is endangered - thanks primarily to China's booming industrialization which has ravaged much of the panda's former habitat.
Other episodes in the series feature: "Lemurs with John Cleese," "Orangutans with Julia Roberts," "Elephants of India with Goldie Hawn," "Cheetahs with Holly Hunter," "Baby Animals with Whoopi Goldberg", "Gray Whales with Christopher Reeve", "In the Lion's Den with Anthony Hopkins" and "Dolphins with Robin Williams."
